We're looking for a keen and motivated placement year student to join our Economics department as part of our 2025 Economics Placement Year programme.

The base

The team

The Economics team at Schroders play a vital part in observing the world economy and providing a unique perspective on financial markets. Alongside recurring analysis, producing longer term research is an essential part of the team's responsibilities. Our views on the world are used by wider business. Whether it's helping our portfolio managers and analysts inform their investment decisions or providing content for our client communications, the work we do is crucial.

The programme

As a Placement student, you'll be assisting the team in their wider responsibilities and take ownership for some projects of your own by providing research support and insight. The role is a fantastic opportunity to take your classroom learning and gain a practical application of how economics is used in the real world. You'll develop a greater insight to how our investors make their investment decisions and how economics can help shape financial markets. Our goals are aligned with those of our clients – the creation of long-term value so we want a talented, creative and diverse team. The more different ideas we have, the more likely we are to succeed.

What you'll be like

  • Some of the characteristics we look for in our Economics Placement year students include:
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • A desire to get involved in variety of tasks and projects
  • Numerate and inquisitive– you'll be comfortable with Excel and have good attention to detail. You'll be happy to think outside the box and look for a fresh perspective
  • A growth mindset: we understand you may make mistakes, and when you do, we are looking for you to learn from these.

The knowledge skills and qualifications were looking for

  • Interested in macroeconomics, financial markets and current affairs
  • Currently studying Economics at university (can be joint honours but Economics must be the major subject)
  • For your application to be considered for this role, your CV must include all of the following:
  • Degree being studied
  • Itemised list of all degree modules (first and second year) - core modules plus options and grades to date
  • If you studied A-level in Maths and grade
  • Relevant work experience
