The teams are responsible for delivering exciting and ambitious growth plans, offering customers a great range of products, that they want and need, at a great price, through all the various own brands and third-party brands that we work collaboratively with.

The role

Sainsbury’s has recently released its 3-year General Merchandise strategy so it’s an exciting time to help shape our brand’s general merchandise offer. You’ll be part of the backbone of our business, which is naturally incredibly fast-paced, working with inspiring teams who are really passionate about what they do. And they do it really well!

You’ll be looking at trend analysis to make sure that we always have what our customers want and need available for them. As Assistant Merchandiser you’ll

  • Analyse weekly trading performance / trends to spot opportunities
  • Own category/range & SKU forecasts to ensure optimisation of sales, stock holding, margin and availability
  • Use merchandising systems to manage our intake/position of stock
  • Ensure the stock arrives at the warehouse and business in a timely fashion to maximise opportunities and adhere to KPIs
  • Work with the A&R team to plan initial stock allocations to ensure that stock and availability targets are met
  • Identify where system parameters can be adapted to maximise availability and stock efficiencies
  • Complete attribute analysis to support the Merchandiser in trading and planning activities
  • Assist the Merchandiser/Senior Merchandiser to ensure on-time delivery of merchandising milestones within the critical path and raising/resolving any issues
  • Be responsible for order management in line with agreed parameters
  • Demonstrate high levels of process compliance and data integrity
  • Ensure team activity is legal and compliant
  • Support the sustainability agenda

Our Merchandising team would love to see

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Merchandiser or Merchandise Admin position, or a graduate in a relevant field
  • Understanding of allocation & stock management
  • Demonstrable experience of forecasting and updating a WSSI
  • Strong analytical & numerical skills
  • Strong excel knowledge
  • Excellent admin and organisational ability
  • A self-starter with a desire to develop
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Take accountability to ensure that own and team targets are met.
  • Positive and proactive approach to building relationships with stakeholders
  • Confidence with learning new systems
