If you’re passionate about food, sustainable supply chains, data and agriculture, you’re studying for an undergraduate degree, and thinking about your placement year for 2022/23, there’s nowhere better than Sainsbury’s.

By Helping Everyone Eat Better we are committing to play a leading role in offering delicious, affordable food that supports healthy and sustainable diets and helps customers reduce their impact on the planet one plate at a time.

With the impact of climate change being felt around the world, and increasing awareness of biodiversity loss and environmental degradation, we are committed to playing our part in helping improve the food system so that it works better for the planet. For us, this means achieving our commitments on carbon, water, plastic, recycling, food waste and biodiversity.

As an Agriculture Intern, you’ll be playing a role in helping Sainsbury’s achieve our Plan For Better goals. With the support of Sainsbury’s Agriculture Data Team, Data Tech and GIS (Geographic Information System) Team, you will develop reports, analysis and maps that will provide insight about Sainsbury’s value chains, from farm to fork. The ultimate purpose is to provide the business with insight that will then drive action, by utilising Sainsbury’s value chains data to full potential.

This is paid work with a FTSE 100 business, and a real foot in the door for only the most ambitious students.

The role

Across your 12 month placement you will:

  • Put everything you have learnt during your degree so far into practice to deliver a real business benefit
  • Develop reports, analysis and maps that will help inform Sainsbury’s decisions to achieve our Net Zero commitment.
  • Work closely with the wider Agriculture Data Team, Data Tech and the GIS team to provide the business with access to environmental data.
  • Have the opportunity to work with and visit our suppliers, giving you access to the whole supply chain
  • Have the opportunity to work in Store, giving you insight into how your work affects our retail colleagues.

What we're looking for

  • A passion for food, sustainable supply chains, data and agriculture.
  • Demonstrable expertise in the use of data, understanding data sources and the value of data and insight.
  • A desire to build on the learnings gained during your degree, and ability to apply your knowledge to real life / work situations
  • Ability to translate complex problems into easy to communicate processes.
  • A passion to learn, with the ability to soak up knowledge from others within our business
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present to a range of stakeholders

In return you'll get

  • A competitive salary
  • Colleague Discount across our multi-brands including Sainsbury's, Argos and Habitat
  • Holiday Allowance
  • Special Offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and more
  • Full year programme of inductions and immersions into our wider business
  • Ample resources at your fingertips – you’ll have everything you need to achieve your objectives and we will help you all the way
  • Help in navigating our business, and all other potential career journeys too, to help you make the right choice when you graduate

Flexible working conversations are encouraged. Across our multi-brands, we’re proud to be an equal opportunities employer that champions a diverse and inclusive culture.
