We have a current requirement for a Graduate Design Engineer to join our design function based in Glasgow on a permanent hybrid working basis. The role of the Graduate Designer is to support the production of discipline specific engineering design deliverables, for a range of multi-disciplinary engineering projects across Mechanical, Electrical, ICA and Civil disciplines within the Water Industry. You will be involved in the initial concept design and development of projects through to detailed design, commissioning and completion across all business streams as required.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Support the design team and produce designs and associated deliverables for a range of engineering projects
  • Ensure that all design work is completed in compliance with all WGM QA Policies, Procedures and Specifications as necessary.
  • Attend sites when required to assist with carrying out surveys and data gathering.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external key contacts in order to maximise efficiencies and identify further opportunities.
  • Assist the Designers & Lead Designers by attending site-based surveys to understand the needs of a given project, gather relevant data and to inform the optimum design solution.
  • In conjunction with other disciplines on the project, manage detailed design tasks to client stage gate and approval specifications
  • Input into the production of design deliverables for specified projects alongside other team deliverables
  • Prepare effective design outputs and contribute technical guidance to projects as
  • required
  • Highlight issues or improvements that could maximise efficiencies or enhance existing procedures
  • To submit all design work to relevant British Standards and client specifications. This includes adherence to all applicable guidance and regulations such as WiMES, CDM 2015, DSEAR Regs and Confined Space Regs as applicable

To be considered for this position you will be a recent graduate with a degree in electrical, mechanical or civil design related subject. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills as communication to various stakeholders both internally and externally are essential for the position. Candidate should show an excellent eye for detail and be methodical in their work processes.
