Scheme overview

Renishaw offers exciting opportunities for graduates within our Manufacturing Services Division. The Operational graduate development programme aims to develop talented graduates.

Experience is gained from spending time working at several of our manufacturing sites based in Gloucestershire and South Wales where individual placements provide graduates with the opportunity to take on real operational roles with responsibility that equips them for a future in manufacturing / supply chain management.

What will I gain from this graduate scheme?

You will gain an overall appreciation of manufacturing management via practical “hands on” placement periods with varied and real operational responsibilities, following a personalised and structured two-year programme leading to a meaningful role within our division (which can lead to managerial positions).

What type of things will I be working on?

Our Operational Graduates (integrated within our larger manufacturing graduate scheme) will rotate through several core business areas within the Manufacturing Services Division including:

  • Production management
  • Materials management
  • Scheduling / logistics
  • Project management
  • Supply chain.

Material Control / Production Scheduling

Planning the material requirements to support the assembly build of a Renishaw product range.  This involves ensuring material supplies are planned in line with build plans to satisfy incoming customer order demand requirements and meet defined stock level targets. A working knowledge of the company manufacturing system will be gained including all transactions related to stock control, design change implementation, and production plan management.

Production Scheduling of a range / group of machines in our Machine Shop environment provides graduates with experience of planning resources effectively to meet demand requirements and machine utilisation targets as well as providing further knowledge of our manufacturing systems in place.

Supply Chain

Operational roles in a combination of Supply Chain Management, Supply Chain Development, and Indirect Purchasing.  In all supply chain functions graduates will gain experience of liaising with external vendors in terms of order placement & expediting, problem solving & negotiation, cost control, risk management, establishing contracts, and efficiency improvement projects as well as working with production and internal design teams.

Production Supervision

Managing a team of production staff to meet build plan and customer order requirements.  Graduates will undertake day-to-day supervisory duties of staff to achieve departmental quality, delivery, and cost targets whilst working in close liaison with local material control, engineering, and management functions. This role will enable graduates to develop their people management, decision making, and prioritisation skills whilst working in a target driven pressurised environment that provides exposure to senior production management.

What career opportunities are available?

Career opportunities will be available in production management, operations, commercial (supply-chain), material control, or scheduling / logistics. Further career progression in these roles to more senior levels can be achieved based on individual performance.

What you will gain

  • Management experience
  • Commercial experience within the Manufacturing Division
  • Interaction across all areas of the business, including our subsidiaries

Where will I be working?

We aim to rotate placements around the sites to provide graduates with a wide experience of our operational facilities.
