We make sure people get the best from their broadband, home phone and mobile services, as well as protecting viewers and listeners form harmful material in TV, radio and on-demand programmes. We also oversee the universal postal service, the radio spectrum over which wireless devices operate, and also help to make sure people don’t get scammed and are protected from bad practices.

Under the Telecommunications (Security) Act, Ofcom have been given new powers to help make sure that the UK’s telecoms networks are safe and secure. We also have responsibilities under the NIS Act to regulate operators of essential services (OES).

On our graduate scheme, you will embark on a two-year series of intensive job placements, moving regularly between projects and departments to ensure that the knowledge and insight you are exposed to is as broad as possible. One week you might be devising new policy directives; the next, monitoring content standards of broadcast programmes.

You’ll be supported by and learn from senior colleagues with expertise in security risk assessment, signalling, virtualisation, vulnerability management, cyber security regulation, asset management and many more. Another area of increasing importance to the team is the monitoring of telecommunications and cyber security standards and graduates will be supported to develop competencies in this area should they be interested.

The Network Security team works closely with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), giving you the opportunity to interact with and learn from some of the best Cyber Security experts in the world.

In addition to technical skills, you’ll also develop essential skills in planning, project management, communication and stakeholder management.

On-the-job training will be supplemented with specialist courses where necessary to equip you with the right skills that would enable you to flourish in the team and develop a successful career in Cyber Security.
