We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Graduate Chemist / Chemist at our oilfield services Laboratories at NOV’s Flotta Test Facility in Orkney (UK).
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting laboratory-based work, consultancy, and site chemistry services for a diverse range of clients within the oil and gas, process and water treatment industries. The role would suit a detail-oriented team member to assist with various chemical analyses, research projects, and quality control processes.

Responsibilities
- Provide laboratory support for all NOV UK (and further afield) enquiries/projects as required.
- Use analytical techniques and instrumentation such as gas chromatography (GC) / mass spectrometry (MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Infrared spectroscopy to investigate and measure chemical compositions.
- Contribute to the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the successful completion of projects within specified timelines and budget constraints.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting laboratory studies in accordance with NOV procedures and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the Chemistry team to develop detailed experimental procedures, sample preparation, analytical methods, and data analysis interrogation and reporting.
- Monitor and document study progress, including sample tracking, data collection, and analysis, while maintaining detailed records of all experimental procedures.
- Review and analyse study data, prepare comprehensive reports and summaries for clients.
Qualifications and experience
- Chemistry/science degree in a relevant discipline.
- Familiarity with analytical equipment, method development, and data analysis.
- Some knowledge of different laboratory testing methods and relevant analytical techniques.
- Understanding of regulations and experience working in a laboratory is desirable.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively.
- Proficiency in using laboratory software and data analysis tools is desirable.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving and project management.
