As part of the Payments development programme, you’ll develop skills in different work situations, contributing to the development and improvement of processes, products and services in your department.

Over the course of the 2 years, you’ll rotate around the Payments function, spending time within our Payments teams across our Service Management and Delivery teams and our Strategy & Performance teams. This will also include the option to study for a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Data & Insights for Business Solutions. You will build your skills and knowledge throughout your time in Payments, gaining experience that will prepare you for a Service Management Analyst role or similar and help propel your career within Nationwide.

We’ll need you to build rewarding relationships across the organisation and externally to understand customer needs, resolve problems and support the delivery of the Society blueprint.

You’ll also attend development workshops and complete any set qualifications and training aligned to achieve your best.

Location

What you’ll be doing

On the Payments programme, you’ll develop towards the role of a Service Management Analyst over a 2-year period gaining the knowledge, skills and network our Payments function requires.

The programme journey consists of three eight-month placements that will give you experience covering the whole Payments journey - including exposure to: Industry and Regulation; Strategy; and Services such as Electronic Payments and Cards.

Industry and Strategy team
You’ll gain experience on how the Payments industry works – with exposure to the Authorities and Regulators. You will be involved with looking at opportunities to further develop our services to respond to evolving customer and regulator demands, whilst also contributing to our future payment strategy - shaping and developing how payments will work in the future.

Business Management team
If data appeals to you, you’ll enjoy time with the Business Management team, who play a critical role in producing forecasts and management information- offering invaluable insight to our payment services, product, and change teams, and well as delivering critical regulatory and performance reporting that is used across the business.

Service team
You’ll get experience in the day-to-day running of a payments service. You will gain insight into supplier engagement and management, ensuring that our payment services are available to our customers 24x7. You will build knowledge in the end-to-end payment journey of Cards Authorisation & Authentication, Digital Payments, Card Token Management, Cheques, Faster Payments, Scheduled Payments and High Value and International Payments and be exposed to high-level incidents and continual change development aspects relating to these services.

There are also opportunities to oversee the technical aspects of Payments processing within Operational Teams and get involved in smaller independent projects which contribute towards a wider impact within the business.

Your communication skills, ability to build strong and trusted working relationships, and passion for delivering great service for our customers, will be invaluable in advising stakeholders, both internally and externally, on the best course of action. The role will also include looking at opportunities to improve our existing services in response to our ever-changing customer behaviours, whilst also delivering our future payment strategy. To support your journey to become a Service Management Analyst you’ll have the opportunity to obtain a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Data & Insights for Business Solutions.

You’ll gain access to a bespoke 18-month learning journey to develop core business skills that complement role-specific development and you’ll meet and work alongside a range of diverse like-minded individuals from across the organisation.

Entry requirements:

In order to be eligible to apply for the apprenticeship as part of this role you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have right to work in the UK
  • Have been living in the UK or EEA countries for the last 3 years
  • Have two GCSEs at A-C/grade 9-4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language

In addition, we will also be looking for:

Nationwide will support your studies with time off work for your Apprenticeship studies and exams. To be successful you will also need to dedicate a significant amount of your own time for self-study, revision, and exam practice.
