To join the NNL Post Doctorate programme you will have a PhD in chemistry, radiochemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, or geochemistry ideally with a focus on nuclear applications and a Masters or Bachelors Degree in Chemistry (or comparable subject).
You will have the right to work in the UK, have lived in the UK for at least 5 years and be able to achieve SC level security clearance.
You will be self-motivated, organised, and able to plan and manage your own time.
Role Responsibility
You will work within the Characterisation and Effluent Rig Operations team in the capability of Waste Management and Decommissioning with an emphasis on nuclear effluent abatement processes. You will have a PhD in chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, or geochemistry (or similar) and have experience of working within a lab-based environment.
Your primary focus will be on work within the effluents area, with the potential for opportunities to support work in other areas including nuclear decontamination, remediation and geodisposal.
You will have a key hands-on role and will participate in the delivery of a range of projects supporting nuclear decommissioning, working closely with Technical Leads, Safety Supervisors, rig operators and facility staff.
As part of the team you will be responsible for operating non-radioactive experimental rigs and carrying out bench-scale experimental work in support of the rig programmes while maintaining focus on the safe delivery of the work and delivering to customer expectations. You will also analyse data from the rigs and experimental programmes, produce reports and present information at Customer meetings
Your two-year scheme will provide the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and skills whilst providing you with an insight into NNL’s strategy and direction. You will receive an overview of how the company operates and delivers its projects.
You will undertake personal development through training aligned to your personal development plan and understand your strengths, weaknesses, and behaviours. You will receive a personal budget to support your development within your field of expertise.

You will be based at our Workington site, our dedicated facility for non-radioactive test rig activities.
