Job description

As the digital revolution is applied to the provision of essential services, electrical engineering will play a central role in creating smart infrastructure, helping to deliver better and quicker performance.

Some of our opportunities will require you to be eligible to achieve security clearance, this is shown in the selection choices. Security clearance is dictated by the types of projects we work on and normally requires you to be a UK British national or lived in the UK for five years or more. Energy

Within our Energy unit, we have opportunties in our Electricity Networks and Energy Generation (Nuclear) teams.

As part of our team, you will work closely with our experts to provide our clients high-value technical support through all phases of development, management level consulting, detailed design, construction, and operation services. You will interface with various stakeholders ranging from EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) Contractors, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), Investors, Transmission Network Operators and Regulatory bodies in a fast-paced environment and take part in high-profile projects with dynamic challenges.

Transport

Transport plays a key role in moving goods within and out-side a country, mobilising the population of all ages, and ensuring sustained economic growth. We look at technology and how connectivity can improve social and economic benefits, alleviate poverty, and reduce inequality. Within our Transport team, you can consider a role within the following teams.

Our rail systems team specialises in the design of electrical systems for railway and tunnel infrastructure. Underground buildings such as tunnels and metros set additional challenges for designers, and these unique risks and challenges require specialist knowledge and experience to address.

Our experience on major projects - metro, road, rail, water, utility - includes every stage of the design process, from optioneering and concept through to detailed design and construction support. You will have the option to select from a number of specialisms include: electrification and power; rail communications; signalling; and traction power.

Water

You’ll be working in the water consultancy EICA team, Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for water projects. We handle a wide range of design projects, including water treatment, distribution, wastewater recycling, desalination, irrigation, hydropower, and flood defence, covering all project phases from feasibility to handover.

You’ll work on tasks like electrical power distribution design, control system design, arranging power supplies, specifying renewable and backup systems, developing plant layouts, cabling design, instrumentation selection, lightning protection assessments, writing control strategies, and conducting equipment tests. You’ll collaborate closely with clients and contractors, building strong relationships to enhance our reputation and secure further work.

Candidate specification

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months relevant experience (excluding placements), have a degree or are expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic & Electrical Engineering
  • Engineering Science specialising in electrical
  • Power Systems Engineering

Please note all of our opportunities require a bachelor’s degree as a minimum, some of our opportunities will also require a master’s degree - this will be reflected in the list of opportunities available in our application form.

In your application you should be able to demonstrate your interest in the role and working at Mott MacDonald through relevant experience, such as studying relevant modules, or previous work experience.
