It begins with Business Enablers
MI5 safeguards the UK against threats such as terrorism, espionage, cyber and sabotage. We investigate suspect individuals and organisations in the UK to obtain, collate, analyse and assess secret intelligence relating to these threats. Alongside our British Intelligence partners MI6 and GCHQ, we provide the UK government with the information they need to protect national security. At MI5, you’ll enjoy varied and rewarding work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.
As a Business Enabler, you’ll gain experience, build relationships and grow your knowledge while providing mission-critical support. This isn’t a development programme – it’s an opportunity for you to get involved, discover new, exciting career prospects, and ensure the wider intelligence business has what it needs to protect our national security. So, whether you’ve just graduated or you’re looking for a career change, you’ll do varied and vital work at the very heart of our organisation.
You’ll collaborate with a range of business areas but you won’t be rotated around different departments. Instead, your first post will typically last two to three years. It could be Finance, Legal, HR, Project Management, Compliance, Recruitment, Data Management, or something else. Wherever you’re based, you’ll bring your people skills and a keen eye for detail to a team that values your work. And at the end of your posting, you’ll take full control of your career with opportunities to apply for a range of roles across MI5.
To join, you’ll need (or be expecting) a 2:2 degree or higher in any subject, or have had a previous permanent role where you’ve developed relevant skills including organisation, teamworking and problem-solving. There’s no one ‘type’ of person we’re after; Business Enablers come from all kinds of backgrounds. You’ll get an induction when you start, and have your own mentor and plenty of training. Plus, ours is an open culture where everyone’s welcome. We’re proud to have a number of affinity groups, including ethnic minority and gender equality networks, mental health, neurodiversity and disability groups, faith/no faith and LGBTQ+ communities, and more.
As well as being part of our friendly, inclusive work environment, you’ll receive 25 days’ annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years’ service), opportunities to work flexibly, a personal learning budget, and an interest free season ticket loan.
This is a unique opportunity to utilise your skills and make and real contribution to our organisation.
At MI5 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
