This is an exciting opportunity to enhance your existing skillset and gain technical knowledge and experience by working alongside highly skilled & experienced automation engineers. 

Throughout the placement, you will be using hands on practical skills to triage, fault find and repair automation products that have exhibited failures during manufacture & test, or from use in the field with customers. 

All work will be conducted under the guidance of more senior colleagues and technicians, allowing you the opportunity to further enhance your skills and capabilities.

You will gain exposure to replacement of through-hold and surface mount components, wiring mods to PCBs, and using scopes and other tools to fact find and understand the root cause of these issues.

The role will be based in the UK, at our Thame site

Key accountabilities

  • Diagnose faults, repair, calibrate and install/update software where necessary and final test of customer/factory returned Automation products. 
  • Provide support to the design engineers for identification of suitable replacement parts/datasheet research
  • Provide assistance to the creation of wiring looms for test purposes

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Qualifications

  • Working towards a degree in a relevant subject (Electronics/Hardware Engineering).

Skills

  • Ability to solder
  • Able to understand circuit basic diagrams
  • Embedded electronics assembly
  • Fault finding to PCB component level
  • Documentation skills to be able to articulate findings and record instrument/measurement output (scope traces, data logger outputs etc)

Essential Knowledge

  • Basic electronics theory
  • PCB technology and assembly methods
  • Electrical wiring practice including safety

Desirable Knowledge

  • Use of PCB/schematic capture tools
  • PLCs
  • Understand component ratings and associated use cases (critical to safety, critical to quality)
