Use your love of innovation to build products for millions of people and explore the core elements of technology engineering, including Software, Cyber, DevOps and Quality.

Help us create technology for millions.

We’re the UK’s largest digital bank, serving over 26 million customers, with 17.4 million of them being active online users. And to keep serving them well, we’re investing up to £2bn each year in innovative tech like robotics, machine learning, cloud technology. In fact, in 2020, our commitment to innovation saw us named Euromoney’s Best Digital Bank in Western Europe.

With each new development, we need to remain laser-focused on our customers and their changing needs. And that’s where our Engineers come in. Their role is to help us develop software and services that improve people’s banking experiences.

Is our Engineering Graduate Scheme for you?

If you're passionate about technology and you love playing with code, Engineering could be for you.

Our programme gives you the chance to explore the many varied and exciting disciplines within Engineering, with learning pathways that can take you into DevOps, Infrastructure, Quality, Security, Service, Software and Site Reliability Engineering. As you explore, you’ll develop detailed knowledge of leading technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.

All our Engineers are collaborative by nature. Working within a specific business area, they’re transforming banking to meet our customers’ needs and supporting our purpose of Helping Britain Prosper. As well as being strong communicators and great team players, they’re keen to always keep learning. If that sounds like something you can relate to, this is the scheme for you.

What you’ll learn on the Engineering Graduate Scheme

Over two years, you’ll gain a fantastic insight into the variety of engineering roles we offer, helping you find and grow in an area you really enjoy.

You’ll join a different team on each of your three rotations and experience a diverse range of projects. You could be working on large-scale projects, writing code in different languages, creating DevOps pipelines, building new features for our mobile app or creating a robot that automatically restores our core banking services.

Whatever the challenge, you’ll learn how to use agile and waterfall methodologies to tackle it and see first-hand the difference your contribution can make. Supported by your Engineering Lead, you can take up extra learning and accreditations such as cloud training and certification courses. You'll also have access to our market-leading on demand learning platform, as well as the chance to network with other engineers at our hackathons, which are sponsored by partners such as Google, Microsoft and IBM.

The work you could be doing

  • Developing your coding skills using languages like JavaScript, C#, Python, Swift, Node and Kotlin
  • Helping to automate processes that save colleagues and customers time
  • Testing new software to make sure it provides a seamless customer experience
  • Stress-testing customer journeys and finding ways to improve them
  • Helping to build customer service infrastructure that’ll be used in branches

What you need to apply

A 2:2 degree or above in any discipline from any university. PhD and Masters students are also welcome.

Due to the technical nature of this scheme, you’ll need a good understanding of at least one modern programming language or framework, a love of technology and a strong desire to learn.
