As the Industrial Placement Student within Catalyst Technologies, you will be given the chance to use your chemical engineering skills from day one, putting all your learning into practice by working on projects and development tasks based around leading technologies.
The aim is to provide experience within our business by working on real tasks and projects where your input is required and valued from day one. This will enable chemical engineers to build on their high academic achievements at university and gain the experience and skills of chemical engineering professionals.

This role can be based at either our Stockton-on-Tees or Paddington (London) locations, and will commence from September 2025
Your responsibilities
- Contribute to projects and development tasks based around leading technologies
- Ensure JM health, safety, environmental and quality procedures are followed and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all associated work
- Take responsibility for the accuracy of calculations, process engineering datasheets and drawings to specify the process engineering requirements of our technologies
- Work on Basic Engineering Packages, including preparation of heat and mass balances, process specifications, P&ID development, hydraulic and process safety design
- Execute process engineering design activities, following JM standards and procedures to schedule and budget as advised by the Lead Engineer, Technology Manager, Project Manager
- Support the business in giving quality and competitive technical advice to customers (internal and external) and suppliers, seeking consultation as required
Requirements
- Studying at MEng level on an IChemE accredited Chemical Engineering Course which enables a placement sandwich year
- A passion for Chemical Engineering and want to use it for development, design, and operation
- Ambition to work in the chemical industry
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Strong safety awareness
- Adaptability, a willingness to learn, and good attention to detail
