Overview of the role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager and based at JCB Transmissions in Wrexham, North-East Wales, this is a role for a technical structures specialist supporting both axle and transmission design.  The position is for a Graduate Structural Engineer with experience of designing and developing complex driveline structures including casings, gears, shafts, bearings as well as brake, clutch, suspension and steering systems.  The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of structural product development from design review through to final validation on a range of exciting and new off-highway vehicles.  The candidate will join a highly focussed team that provides driveline solutions to the entire JCB Group worldwide as well as a number of OEM customers.

Your responsibilities as a Structural Engineer

  • Driveline component and system design in a fast-paced, multi-project environment practising simultaneous engineering including design for manufacture, assembly and service.
  • Work closely with the purchasing department to identify suitable suppliers and materials and optimise both the tooling and piece price cost.
  • Develop and validate new analysis methods and product specifications.
  • Establishment of load cases for new and existing applications.
  • Running multibody linear and non-linear FEA analysis including bolted joint analyses.
  • Supporting the driveline application process for new and existing driveline products in new or updated JCB and OEM vehicles.
  • Presentation of design iterations and performance predictions through a gated project review process.
  • Writing and presenting reports to support new product introduction process and internal and external applications.
  • Publication and review of formal design documentation including FMEA, DVPSOR, engineering change documentation and 2D drawings.
  • Supporting the Technical Review process for JCB and competitor driveline components.
  • Liaising with internal and external customers and with JCB Group engineering functions.
  • Approval of driveline structures for submitted application load cases.

About you

  • Educated to a minimum of a degree level (Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Electrical considered)
  • An in-depth fundamental understanding of structures and material performance including fatigue.
  • Experience of CAD + CAE
  • Passionate about driveline engineering
  • Demonstrate sound grasp of engineering principles.
  • Self-starting and ability to make things happen & work to deadlines.
