About the opportunity

The Defence & Security business at Jacobs provides an exciting mixture of consultancy, design and engineering support, along with the delivery of challenging projects to major clients in the UK across the nuclear and defence industries, including (Ministry of Defence) HMNB Clyde, HMNB Devonport and HMNB Portsmouth, BAES Barrow and Glasgow, and Babcock Rosyth, Clyde and Devonport. Overseas, we are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects across the globe including projects for clients in the Middle East and Australia.

As a Graduate Ports and Maritime Civil/Structural Engineer, you will join our specialist team, looking at complex and technically demanding maritime engineering problems within the nuclear and defence industries.  Each of our projects is unique, but typically involves consideration of the interaction between ports, harbour and coastal structures and the marine environment.  The key challenges associated with the design, assessment and appraisal of marine infrastructure typically includes the consideration of vessel berthing and mooring loads on structures, the influence of tides, waves and currents as well as the impacts of sea level rise and the corrosive effects of seawater on steel and reinforced concrete structures.  As a result of the environment within which our projects are located, our work remains varied and interesting, keeping the engineering challenges fresh and exciting.

Our team includes a wealth of experience and expertise in all aspects of maritime infrastructure projects and we work in an environment where the sharing of knowledge and learning of new skills is actively encouraged throughout our team.

Opportunities are available in our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices.
