We are seeking a student eager to learn the fundamentals of accounting and taxation. We provide a hands-on experience by involving you in client contracts within the first few weeks and having you attend meetings with senior staff. With the firm’s diverse areas of expertise, we can guide you in pursuing a specific area of interest.

Dean Anderson CA, Managing Director, acts as an interim financial director for several clients and as a more traditional accountant for the firm’s clients, focusing on growth and cashflow. Dean has worked for small, medium, and big four accountancy firms and has also worked overseas.

James Edwards ATT CTA, Tax Director, deals with personal tax, trusts, and deceased estates. He works very closely with Solicitors’ Practices and Financial Advice firms to implement the tax element of personal advice. James also works for the Scottish Tax Clinic, which helps vulnerable people with their tax situations.

Iain Harris CA CTA, Associate Director, works as both a traditional accountant and as a tax adviser specialising in VAT. Like Dean, Iain’s focus as an accountant is helping clients grow their business. In the VAT arena, Iain’s largest interest is Commercial Property VAT, although he also enjoys the challenge of businesses having to juggle multiple VAT rates on their income. Iain joined Anderson & Edwards in July 2024 following a career that started in a small accountancy practice and has since covered a variety of roles in various businesses from small companies to large corporates.

A bit about the role

You will work closely with Dean, James, and Iain, learning a great deal about both the accounting industry and the soft skills that will benefit you throughout your career.

Our aim during your CA training is to help you develop into a versatile accountant, providing you with the foundation to advance in your chosen career.

We are seeking graduate applicants who have or are on track for, at least a 2:1 in your chosen degree. The successful applicant’s start date would likely be during the Summer of 2025.

Please include a cover letter and your CV when applying for the role. Within your cover letter, we would like you to answer the following three questions within your application.

1) What has drawn you to study for a CA qualification?

2) Our strapline is “Quality Services, Quality Outcomes,” and one of our core values is honesty. What does honesty mean to you, and what message are we trying to highlight to our clients with our strapline?

3) We are a small firm, which means the clients and working environment will be very different from those of a bigger firm. What has drawn you to applying to work for a small accountancy firm, and what experiences and knowledge are you looking to gain in working with us?

If you have any questions before you submit your application, please contact info@ae-ca.co.uk and we will reply.
