Huawei R&D UK is now offering internships in the field of Indoor Positioning. The positions are openin its Edinburgh Research Centre. The team you will be joining is systems-focused, so we are lookingfor engineering-minded researchers with a focus on developing algorithms to advance the locationcontext awareness for smart phones and other wearables or handheld devices. The successfulcandidates should be able to demonstrate relevant scientific skills, or engineering skills, undertakingR&D in data driven localisation, robotics or AI systems. We’re looking to recruit from various level of
students with skills that would enable them to harness and sharpen their R&D experience.Nevertheless, candidates with strong exposure to signal processing, AI (Unsupervised /Reinforcement) activity recognition and features engineering are encouraged to apply.

Job Purpose

Working as part of the Huawei positioning & navigation team sums a spectrum of empirical computerscience research and data driven solution engineering. This team in Edinburgh Research Centre isresponsible for algorithm developing, prototyping and identifying opportunities to improve Huaweidevices user’s experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluating and assessment of alternative indoor positioning & navigation algorithms forsmartphones & wearables.
  • Assisting in implementation of components to enrich data pipeline, working with Qualitativedata, features engineering, data clustering, classification and dimensionality reduction.
  • Support the research team in building automated testing and evaluation reports for key technicalcomponents.
  • Contribute to the overall competence of Huawei’s research and development of positioning andradio-map construction.
  • Realise and procure innovations for the future development of positioning and navigationtechnologies.

About you

Required:

Previous experience in at least two of the following:

  • RF Signal Processing.
  • Data Regression / Augmentation.
  • Geomagnetic Map Construction.
  • RF SLAM / Crowd-Sourcing.
  • Machine Learning / Deep Learning.
  • Smartphone Indoor Navigation.
  • Reasonable programming skills in at least one of: Java, Python or C++
  • Ability to discuss, evaluate and run algorithms developed by other team members.
  • Enrolment in relevant undergraduateor post graduate course.

Desired:

  • Relevant experience deliveringinnovations and R&D projects.
  • Contributions to open-source projectsrelated to qualitative data frameworks orpipelines.
  • Previous experience in geospatial datascience.
  • Publications records in related topics.

We wish you are

  • A PhD student or candidate in Computing Science, Database, Programming Languages orother related programmes;
  • Have a strong academic background and programming skills, published paper on topconferences or journals in the related fields is preferred;
  • Be able to work minimum 3 month, 20 hours per week.
