A two-year programme where you'll learn and develop the skills you need to oversee the security of our network, applications, and infrastructure.

What you'll do

Your HSBC journey will be built upon - and thrive with - your skills.

We know how important it is to have the right skills, both for your future and ours. By building this skillset now, we’ll help you develop the agility to keep learning new skills throughout your career.

Over the course of two years, you’ll get to:

  • Work alongside the cybersecurity specialists who are continuously improving our security controls against an evolving threat landscape
  • Help to identify vulnerabilities within our systems, using offensive and defensive techniques, such as penetration testing, threat modelling and red team/blue team exercises
  • Play an active role in communication programmes that help to enhance the cybersecurity mindset and culture within our technology centres

Who you are

We welcome students from all degree disciplines and backgrounds, particularly those with a passion for technology.

It takes a broad range of skills to be successful at HSBC. We're looking forward to seeing the mix of skills you’ve learned so far, and hearing about the unique perspective that you’ll bring to our teams. We’ll help you learn everything else.

To join us on this programme, you’ll need to be:

  • Intellectually curious and constantly looking for new ways to hone your skills
  • Eager to contribute and take responsibility for your work and outcomes
  • A natural collaborator, who’s always happy to speak up, enjoys building relationships and sharing ideas
  • A strong analytical thinker, with a solid base of tech skills that you’re keen to apply to real-world situations
  • Communicative and resilient, taking changes in your stride and quickly adapting to new situations

What you'll learn

We’ll help you develop the technical skills most relevant to your role. We’ll also provide plenty of opportunities to advance your non-technical skills, like communication and collaboration, that will help you move your career forward successfully.

During your time on the programme, you’ll:

  • Hone your technical skills in vulnerability assessment and penetration testing as you test new IT systems against rigorous security standards
  • Learn about network and software security, as well as security information and event management, and how to complete security assessments and audits
  • Develop an Agile, DevOps and SecDevOps mind-set, and specific skills in computational thinking by using technology to tackle problems as they arise
  • Become well-versed in security incident response services, risk management and compliance, identify and access management, and cryptography
  • Have plenty of other opportunities to develop your skills, and people to support you along the way, ensuring that you’re well prepared for the future
