As a Materials Engineering Intern at Honeywell Aerospace Yeovil, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your skills in materials and chemistry, specifically in chemical surface treatment processes for aerospace applications.

The role

You will be part of our Design and Manufacturing Engineering teams, working on new and existing aerospace products in our Honeywell Aerospace Technologies portfolio. Your role will involve supporting aspects of materials engineering, including materials laboratory evaluations, assisting in investigating non-conformances, participating in hardware design and re-design projects, evaluating alternative and obsolete materials, and assisting in assessing the performance and compliance of the supply chain. In this role, you will have the opportunity to interface and collaborate with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including Design, Stress, Performance Engineering, Materials Laboratory,

Project Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, Procurement, Sourcing, other Honeywell Aerospace sites, external suppliers, and OEM manufacturers being supplied by Honeywell Aerospace Technologies.

This role is part of our University Relations program, designed to help students and recent graduates launch their careers with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for growth within Honeywell. This internship is set up for 12 months and will be for a candidate requiring a 2025 sandwich internship as part of their degree, with a potential opportunity for a permanent role after graduation.

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting in materials laboratory evaluations and investigations of non-conformance
  • Contributing to hardware design and re-design projects
  • Assisting in evaluating alternative and obsolete materials for qualification
  • Assisting with the assessment of the performance and compliance of the supply chain
  • Assisting in maintaining documentation relating to materials and processes requirements, and liaising with & creating reports for our customers

Key skills and qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field, that requires a yearlong industry placement in 2025
  • Proven interest in aerospace materials and surface treatments, including chemical and electro-chemical processing, (from the workplace, internship, your degree or a hobby)
  • Basic knowledge of environmental regulations, including REACh, TSCA, etc.
  • Business level communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
