ViiV Healthcare is a specialist company established by GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer in 2009, with the addition of Shionogi in 2012 after working together on the development of several drugs. We are focused solely on the research, development and commercialization of medicines to treat HIV. Our aim is to take a deeper and broader interest in HIV/AIDS than any company has done before and take a unique approach to deliver new and effective HIV medicines as well as supporting communities affected by HIV.

Working in Global Medical, you will be working in one of the largest divisions in ViiV, where you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of functions. The roles

Please read about the 8 roles we are recruiting for across our ViiV Global Medical Industrial Placement offerings. These are distinct placements, so when you apply you will be able to select a preference for where you would like to be placed if you’re successful. We will accommodate your preference where possible.

Role 1: ViiV Global Medical Affairs Associate

This role is an opportunity to join the Global Paediatrics Medical Affairs team, which supports the overall mission of paediatrics across the portfolio, working closely with R+D, medical affairs, global commercial, scientific communications, and health outcomes group. Despite progress, paediatric HIV remains a global health issue, with children disproportionally affected by the epidemic. ViiV has the aspiration to make HIV infections and AIDS rare events for children and adolescents and make HIV a smaller part of the daily lives of children, adolescents, and their caregivers.

The successful candidate will gain experience of planning and delivering of paediatric medical affairs initiatives and activities for internal stakeholders (working with medical, research and development, sales, marketing, local operating companies) and external (health care professionals, advocacy and people living with HIV and their communities) customers.

Key responsibilities:

End to end ownership of assigned project deliverables such as:

  • Engaging in targeted literature reviews to enhance knowledge and identify key data gaps in paediatrics, while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the scientific process for generating evidence-based data.
  • Owning the end-to-end management of specific paediatric projects, tailored to specific interests and needs (examples include generation of African paediatric cohort tracker).
  • Assisting in the planning and development of global advisory boards, including managing external experts and collaborating with regional/local leads globally.
  • Actively participating in and contributing to cross-functional strategic planning sessions, fostering a solid comprehension of the role of Medical Affairs within the industry and cultivating project management skills.
  • Providing support in implementing the medical education strategy for paediatrics, ensuring effective delivery of educational initiatives.
  • Serving as a liaison with external agencies, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.

Role 2: ViiV European Medical Affairs Associate

The ViiV Healthcare European Medical Affairs Industrial Placement will enable the placement student to work in the European medical teams fast paced and dynamic environment, who are responsible for a wide range of activities. This includes industry experience & medical expertise in the field of HIV, research methodology and critical thinking, teamwork and cross-functional working and experience with medical support for commercial deliverables. You will gain a range of flexibility in the projects they choose to work on based on their own personal development objectives and interests. The European Medical Affairs Team covers a broad range of activities from strategy to execution, across the whole portfolio of ViiV products, Patient Affairs, Medical Education and training. It works in partnership with the ViiV medical teams in each European country, in very close collaboration with the marketing and market access teams and ensures close relationships with Key External Experts on the field of HIV.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participating in and assisting in running cross-functional strategic planning sessions
  • Multi-functional stakeholder management – engaging across the business on high profile projects.
  • Stakeholder workstream management – attending workstream meetings and reporting back to the broader project lead team to ensure overall alignment to objectives.
  • Close working with the respective congress operations managers to support regional congress operating groups and ensure alignment to global strategy and tactical implementation.
  • Insights gathering, training and engagement responsibilities.

Role 3: ViiV International Medical Affairs Executive

This role is an opportunity to support the development and execution of the Medical Excellence plan to support the needs of the countries across the international region.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of the international head office medical excellence plan
  • Support and lead (where appropriate) development and implantation of training programs across the region
  • Organise and project manage the conference training for commercial and medical teams working with Medical Excellence Director
  • Organize network calls to build the medical leaders’ community and share updates to help best practice sharing.
  • Regularly updating distribution lists
  • Support the user administration of the Mindtickle platform (e-learning platform)
  • Work with the IHQ (International Headquarters) Medical team on several projects

Role 4: ViiV Safety and Pharmacovigilance Executive

The ViiV Safety and Pharmacovigilance (PV) team are dedicated to safeguarding the wellbeing of all persons who use ViiV medicines. Working with colleagues across both ViiV and GSK, the Safety and PV executive will support the team to make ethical and patient focussed decisions, and to adhere to all the global regulatory requirements. The role will expose the student to both scientific and medical staff, including experts in the field of HIV, providing a chance to build a network of professional relationships across the company.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to multiple different projects relating to patient safety, allowing development of time management skills, and learning to work flexibly.
  • Supporting the team’s oversight of market research, patient support programs and interactive digital media to ensure patient safety is managed according to both internal and external requirements.
  • Management of our internal safety webpages, including generation of content and publishing of articles and blogs on internal company forums.
  • Oversight of the support team that manages our document archiving, allowing the student to practice their leadership skills.
  • Review, assessment and summarising of information at some of the key safety oversight forums. This will help develop presentation skills and expose the individual to senior leadership.
  • Delivery of training on systems and processes.
  • Learning how manage a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and supporting the maintenance of the team’s BCP.
  • Development of knowledge related to drug safety, global regulatory requirements and the functioning of a global pharmaceutical company. The role will expose the student to scientific career options outside of a laboratory.
  • Opportunities to work on one-off safety related projects dependent on the student’s skills/development goals. The Safety and PV team also support the student to have access to the wealth of groups and resources available in the wider ViiV and GSK organisation.

Role 5: ViiV Global Patient Affairs Associate

The Global Patient Engagement team is responsible for driving systematic and meaningful engagement of patients, patient organisations, and other relevant stakeholders across the organisation to ensure ViiV is considering their points of view in how we make decisions – this means partnering directly with them. If we do this well, we will support the organisation to develop and deliver medicines, services and interactions that really meet the needs of the patient communities we serve, and support patients to have a more active role in achieving desired health outcomes.

The student will support the team in evolving, communication and implementing a new enterprise-wide strategy, and the culture/mindset shift that will accompany the strategy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the development and execution of innovative patient engagement (PE) internal training and strategic awareness raising events e.g., Lunch and Learns
  • Support the communication, implementation, and delivery of the global PE plan.
  • Review and work with PE team to optimise Global PE SharePoint.
  • Organise and facilitate Global PE team “Value and Impact” meetings, and prepare meeting materials as per team’s needs (e.g., slide decks, reports, minutes)
  • Support budget management by coordinating POs, invoices, and timely payments
  • Support coordination of contracts and agreements for steering committees and advisory boards.
  • Learn about the science of PE and support the team in building capabilities
  • Working with other teams to dispel myths about HIV in the general population.
  • Supporting the Global team and partners develop plans to share data and co-create materials.

Role 6: ViiV Global Medical Digital Associate

The vision for Medical Digital at ViiV is to build a world where healthcare professionals and people who would benefit from PrEP or those living with HIV have access to the latest medical science, data and technology at their fingertips, enabling them to make more informed decisions, feel in control and achieve optimal health outcomes. The Medical Digital team stretches across global, regional and local functions and works on innovative/prioritised projects offering the opportunity to partner and engage directly with senior stakeholders.

The IP will support the Medical Digital transformation ensuring timely project deliverables, as well as assisting the Medical Digital team in internal/external comms. They will monitor the digital landscape, offer creative solutions, help coordinating the global customer experience framework deployment, and lead content creation while facilitating smooth progress of Content Lab jobs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Global Medical Digital transformation across our 4 workstreams (People, Tools, Analytics, Innovation pipeline) by partnering with the Workstreams leads to make sure project deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
  • Support the Head of Global Medical Digital with internal and external comms (incl. social media activities) related to our Global Medical Digital transformation.
  • Monitor the external digital landscape, stay apprised of new and emerging innovations (e.g. GenAI, MML), evaluate latest trends, offer creative solutions, and help support a long-term vision for Digital in Medical
  • Support the Global Medical Digital Team in coordinating the deployment of our global CX medical framework and related processes.
  • Lead the coordination of content creation for the CX framework and VX Medical Portal, including:

Support the Global Medical Digital team in testing and optimising innovative digital solutions that could address or even anticipate the needs of patients and HCPs.

Coordinate the medical content creation and approval incl. making sure Content Lab jobs are progressing on time to the right person.

Talk to MOC (Marketing Operations Centre), creative agency, medical approver and commercial approver when needed to move jobs along.

Make sure MOC and agency has uploaded the correct forms to jobs on Content Lab. After jobs are Approved for Distribution, make sure MOC published the pages on time.

Role 7: ViiV Global Medical Operations Executive

This role is an opportunity to join a function that stretches across all business functions, global regional and local teams and works on high profile projects engaging directly with senior stakeholders.

The successful candidate will gain experience of owning a conference project end to end, evaluating how to best implement global strategy from both a medical and commercial perspective, deliver materials within the scope of local regulations, set Key Performance Indicators, and assess the Return on Objective. This team is highly accountable, high functioning and delivers high profile projects under pressure.  It would give any student a great grounding in how all functions of the business come together under one business strategy.  It is a particularly challenging and exciting time for the business as we move into a new portfolio era.

Key responsibilities:

End to end ownership of assigned project deliverables such as:

  • Owning the end-to-end management of the Virology Education Conference sponsorship programme – working to map out the annual programme including publication overview, allocation of attendance, managing sponsorship benefits with regional/local leads globally (conferences can occur in any global location).
  • Participating in and assisting in running cross-functional strategic planning sessions
  • Multi-functional stakeholder management – engaging across the business on high profile projects.
  • Stakeholder workstream management – attending workstream meetings and reporting back to the broader project team to ensure overall alignment to objectives.
  • Agency liaison
  • Close working with the respective congress operations managers to support regional congress operating groups and ensure alignment to global strategy and tactical implementation.

Role 8: ViiV Global Health Outcomes Executive

Global Health Outcomes (GHO) sits within Global Medical Sciences at ViiV Healthcare but works collaboratively across R&D, Global Medical and Commercial to support product launches from target selection, through launch and all the way to the integration into clinical practice. GHO is responsible for several activities, however, here is a short summary of a few that take up most of the team’s time. GHO is core function involved in generating the value-evidence plan, early in a products’ lifecycle, leading on advice seeking, early economic modelling and the development of non-clinical data generation plans.

Later in products lifecycle the team focus on developing Value Narratives and creating associated value-demonstrating materials and tools, including cost-effectiveness analyses to demonstrate the value of ViiV innovations, which are critical for successful reimbursement and patient access to our medicines, globally. Furthermore, GHO is a core function in the development of real-word evidence strategies and the successful implementation of these; whether this be in the run-up to a product-launch or to support the in-practice integration of new medicines. Finally, GHO owns the ‘patient-reported outcomes’ Strategy and is responsible for the upskilling of all involved ViiV employees.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work across multiple global medical science functions to organise and lead network calls
  • Project manage the roll out of internal educational programmes.
  • Own Best Practice Sharing across ViiV Global Medical Sciences functions, aligned with Business Priorities; activities would include the development of the content and delivery of the sessions
  • Coordinate team input and feedback on above brand/ cross-functional studies
  • Support with slide development for pre-read and presentation materials
  • Support implementation of materials to the regions and markets and provide feedback to global to ensure continual improvement.
  • Own the internal workplace engagement-activities for GHO; plan, develop and deliver social media content, this includes creating short videos and posts to raise awareness of GHO-generated data.
  • Stakeholder management with vendors, to ensure timely delivery of materials for time critical studies.
  • Conduct and report on targeted literature reviews, to help inform study ideas and research concepts, e.g., new treatment concepts to support.
