ViiV Healthcare is a specialist company established by GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer in 2009, with the addition of Shionogi in 2012 after working together on the development of several drugs. Working in Global Medical, you will be working in one of the largest divisions in ViiV, where you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of functions. Whether it would be organising congress meetings, providing training for HCPs (Healthcare Professional) or ensuring best practice is followed when administering our drugs. This all provides an amazing opportunity to network with people who operate in a number of functions of the business. Please note, these are distinct placements and so when you apply you will be able to select your top 2 preferences of where you would like to be placed if successful. We will accommodate your preference where possible.

  • Role 1: Global Medical Affairs
  • Role 2: European Medical Affairs Associate
  • Role 3: Medical Operations Executive
  • Role 4: Safety and Pharmacovigilance Executive

Role 1: Global Medical Affairs: GSK House, Brentford

Your role will be to support the Global Medical Affairs team. You will help ensure the relevant healthcare professionals have the data needed to enable prompt and appropriate access for patients for our new medication. Apart from working in product-specific teams, you will have the chance to work in the paediatrics, patient affairs and portfolio teams.

In addition to working within this unique operating model in ViiV Global Medical, you will gain the opportunity for coaching within your team; receive mentoring within the Commercial side; the chance to network with industry professionals; engage with our research and development teams for a broad exposure to pharmaceutical drug development; and, be provided with stretch objectives based on your interests and skills.

Please read below about the key responsibilities of the role:

  • Facilitate a meeting with global regional medical leads to develop next year’s strategy and a plan of when new medical training materials will be produced
  • Assist commercial teams in the development of medically accurate promotional material for the use of sales representatives after product launch
  • Analyse and summarise responses from healthcare professionals on their perceptions of a new product and which patient’s populations they intend to treat it with to inform non medically trained staff
  • A comprehensive literature review on the effects of Anti-retroviral on bone health, make suggestions on how best to present the data in a training slide deck. Also undertake a review to update the epidemiology section of a product’s risk management plan
  • Work as part of a team to produce a data gaps analysis plan to inform research strategy for clinical trials, gain experience in research methodology
  • Conduct a review of how injection site reactions are reported in early stage clinical trials and in package inserts of new products, to inform the medical team prior to the launch of a new injectable product
  • Interpret and demonstrate the results of late stage clinical trials and real – world data set
  • Support drug safety teams in pharmacovigilance activities

Role 2: European Medical Affairs Associate: GSK House, Brentford

The ViiV Healthcare European Medical Affairs Industrial Placement will enable you to work in the European medical teams fast paced and dynamic environment, who are responsible for a wide range of activities. This includes industry experience & medical expertise in the field of HIV, research methodology and critical thinking, teamwork and cross-functional working and experience with medical support for commercial deliverables. You will gain a range of flexibility in the projects you choose to work on based on your own personal development objectives and interests.

The European Medical Affairs Team covers a broad range of activities from strategy to execution, across the whole portfolio of ViiV products, Patient Affairs, Medical Education and training. It works in partnership with the ViiV medical teams in each European country, in very close collaboration with the marketing and market access teams and ensures close relationships with Key External Experts on the field of HIV.

Please read below about the key responsibilities of the role:

  • Participating in and assisting in running cross-functional strategic planning sessions
  • Multi-functional stakeholder management – engaging across the business on high profile projects
  • Stakeholder workstream management – attending workstream meetings and reporting back to the broader project lead team to ensure overall alignment to objectives
  • Close working with the respective congress operations managers in order to support regional congress operating groups and ensure alignment to global strategy and tactical implementation
  • Owning the end to end management of the Virology Education Conference sponsorship programme

Role 3: Medical Operations Executive: GSK House, Brentford

The ViiV Healthcare Medical Operations Industrial Placement enables you to experience working with the Global Congress team. This is an opportunity to join a function that stretches across all business functions as well as global, regional and local teams and work on high profile projects engaging directly with senior stakeholders. This team is critical in assessing, managing and effecting change across the business following the major shift in the global events industry to virtual and hybrid models as a result of the global pandemic, starting with global scientific congress management and moving through region to LOC (Local Operating Company).

Please read below about the key responsibilities of the role:

  • International Congress Management including VCSC (ViiV Congress Steering Committee) and the Global Congress Sponsorships
  • Medical and Commercial Strategy Planning
  • Owning the end-to-end management of the Virology Education Conference sponsorship programme – liaising with the Conference Secretariat and Scientific Communications teams to map out the annual programme including publication overview, allocation of attendance, managing sponsorship benefits with regional/local leads globally (conferences can occur in any global location).
  • Owning the ViiV internal global congress hub including the attendance portal and resource library
  • Participating in and assisting in running cross-functional strategic planning sessions
  • Multi-functional stakeholder management – engaging across the business
  • Investment and spend tracking – exposure to large scale budgeting and reporting
  • Close working with the regional congress operating groups to ensure alignment to global strategy and tactical implementation
  • KPI (Key Performance Indicators) and metrics management per project

Role 4: Safety and Pharmacovigilance Executive: GSK House, Brentford

This placement will help to build project management skills and will allow you to gain experience and knowledge of working with proficient scientific and medical staff and experts in the field of HIV and safety/pharmacovigilance. You will join some meetings attended by senior leaders and have a chance to present to various teams. This placement will also give a chance to build a network of professional relationships across the company, as well as providing ongoing development opportunities. This is an opportunity to gain insights and experience of roles and careers available to scientists that are not laboratory based.

Please read below about the key responsibilities of the role:

  • Working as part of the QPPV (Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance) Office and PV Oversight Committee, helping to oversee safety activities
  • Review/monitor pharmacovigilance (PV) datasets and present findings to the team
  • Support for key governance meetings and related activities
  • Database and website maintenance and oversight
  • Producing PV reports and information for the Pharmacovigilance System Master File, which is a key PV document
  • Contribution to delivery of training on new systems, processes and policies
  • Engaging with other stakeholders in ViiV Healthcare and in GSK
  • Contribution to medical and scientific projects, and process improvement initiatives
