Our Global Technology Centre
Our new Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol is a £32m state of the art technology research and development facility. It acts as a hub for world-class innovative technology for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. It offers a collaborative space for research and development with universities, the UK’s CATAPULT network and GKN Aerospace’s UK supply chain, to help strengthen aerospace technology and support the UK’s Industrial strategy.
Job Summary
For the third and consecutive year we have a number of exciting internship opportunities based at our Global Technology Centre. For this placement you will ideally have experience in coding, with an interest in the application of machine learning and AI to solve complex data and image analysis challenges. About The Project
Working on this project will give you the opportunity to:
- Support the team in developing and maturing Powder Bed AM technologies for Aero-Engine and Space Product applications; this is potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity to actually be a rocket scientist!
- Develop product and test specimen designs, undertake AM build, file, preparation and simulation and ultimately support product manufacture
- Supporting practical lab work and investigations to verify material quality through optical and scanning electron microscopy
- Support the development of in-situ monitoring process for AM
- Explore all things from design and simulation, to factory design, material characterisation and the development of software tools for data analysis
Job Qualifications
In order to be considered for this role you will need to be studying towards a degree, or have completed your studies in one of the following subjects:
- Undergraduate degree in Aerospace engineering, Mechanical engineering, or Material Science.
In addition you will also bring with you the following:
- An enthusiasm for additive manufacture linked with an interest in aerospace or space science
- Experience with coding and machine learning
- Experience with CAD packages (CATIX, Siemens NX, Fusion 360, SolidWorks…)
- Practical hands on manufacturing experience
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English, coupled with good IT skills.
