Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and curious engineer to join our Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems engineering team in Rugby. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team of engineers, you will be responsible for all tasks related to software design, implementation and testing of Marine Automation and DP systems for marine offshore and naval applications.

DP systems are essentially computer-controlled autopilot systems for seafaring vessels or marine floating constructions. They maintain set course or position using propulsion units to counteract the effects of displacing forces such as wind, current, and wave action. In this role you will focus on:

  • Executing various controls software engineering activities for the delivery of compliant automation and dynamic positioning (DP) systems from the receipt of an order to handover to the customer.
  • Planning and executing all engineering activities to ensure projects attain on-time delivery, cost, and quality targets, including testing and documentation.
  • Providing a technical interface to various stakeholders (customers, marine classification societies, and suppliers) and the sales, commissioning, and service teams.
  • Performing the functional design of HMI, PLC Architecture, Networks, and Communications interfaces using standard hardware and software components.
  • Writing PLC code using IEC 61131-3 compliant programming languages (e.g., Ladder diagram (LD), Function block diagram (FBD), Structured text (ST), Instruction list (IL), and Sequential function chart (SFC)).
  • Designing, implementing, and testing automation process mimics using HMI SCADA packages.
  • Working with the Drawing Office to produce equipment drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, cable interconnection drawings, and interface schedules, etc.

We are looking for a committed and professional individual with

  • A relevant degree in Electrical, Electronics or Industrial Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent), or significant relevant experience gained in a professional engineering environment.
  • Good understanding of programming PLCs (IEC61131 Function Block, Ladder, Structured text, etc.), and HMI/SCADA systems programming.
  • Experience of control &instrumentation, mechanical & electrical packaging for automation systems.
  • Knowledge of Industrial communication protocols e.g. Modbus (RTU/TCP IP), OPC-UA, Profibus, Profinet etc.

What will make you stand out
