The role

Generate new business by identifying, building, nurturing and maintaining relationships with potential clients. Underwriting new business opportunities, by using sensible and recognised underwriting practices, using good judgement and industry insight, in the pursuit of achieving and exceeding the new business budget and meeting agreed KPIs

How you'll make an impact

  • Primarily a new business role, with occasional support to existing business as required, rating and underwriting new business enquiries
  • Review the demands and needs of the customer and provide expert advice in respect of their insurance needs and the most appropriate insurances to fulfil those demands and needs.
  • Highest standard of personal organisation to ensure the various tasks for this role are consistently expedited on a daily and weekly basis i.e. quotation opportunities, pipeline building, client meetings, etc.
  • Have an unwavering appetite for contacting prospective clients in their pipeline, following up on quotes, seeking further opportunity to upsell/cross sell across our product range. Also sourcing new contacts from many sources.
  • Contribute willingly and enthusiastically as a team player, encouraging and supporting your colleagues with the ultimate goal of the whole team achieving the team new business target.
  • Understand intimately the products and services that the business offers including an overview of the unique support services provided by the Hazardous Goods Schemes.
  • Develop relationships with both internal and external underwriters/insurers gaining their trust and support. Liaising and negotiating effectively with Underwriters & Insurers to obtain the most appropriate terms for our clients.
  • Liaise as required with Accounts and Claims departments

About you

  • Min 1 year relevant insurance experience

Technical Knowledge

  • Product knowledge and experience, specifically within the following areas:
  • Property
  • Casualty
  • Liability

Experience and Skills

  • You're aware of, if not already working towards your CII/ Dip CII qualification and educated to good GCSE Level standard or equivalent.
  • Sound knowledge of general insurance and underlying legal principles and practices, especially London Market / Lloyd’s and Industry databases.
  • Knowledge of underwriting and servicing accounts, you are happy using technical knowledge to handle claim queries, resulting in an engaged service.
  • You cleverly extract and piece together information from a broad range of different sources; highlighting your experience of client renewals and seeing business opportunities.
  • With strong communication and social skills with clients and colleagues alike; you take pride in having a high level of numeracy and literacy.
  • Your analytical, problem solving approach coupled with initiative and dedicated attitude is a real key for success, and we love that.
