The Strategic Communications segment within FTI Consulting design, develop and execute tailored, communications strategies for clients managing financial, regulatory and reputational challenges – all with the primary goal of protecting and enhancing a client’s reputation and business value.

We offer a broad base of communication disciplines across a variety of specialist sectors and, increasingly, in cross-sector disciplines. With 300+ colleagues across the London office, our sector teams focus on financial services, retail, energy, real estate, technology media telecoms (TMT) and life sciences – among many others. These teams work in tandem with our cross-sector teams who advise clients from all industries on government relations, people and transformation communications, international campaigns and issues management, strategy and research, crisis preparedness and management, special situations and digital strategies.

Our Summer Internship programme – How It Works 

Our eight-week London-based summer internship programme will provide you with the opportunity to work with one of our expert teams, to gain exposure to clients, build relationships and gain a wealth of experience supporting on communications activity across a range of industries.  

Interns will learn from leading industry experts and advisors and will develop practical skills such as press release writing and pitching to journalists. 

Types of work you could be involved in

  • Research tasks for existing clients/pitch proposals 
  • Summary/analytical tasks, assessing audience and communications impact 
  • Press release writing and drafting other communication documents 
  • Supporting on creative corporate briefs 
  • Coverage round-ups and analysis 
  • Calls with journalists and sell-side analysts – selling in press releases and events or seeking feedback on company results 
  • Monitoring developments in current affairs, contributing to briefings and analysis of the latest trending political issues and debates in Parliament

  • Eight-week, paid internship in Strategic Communications, starting in early July. 
  • Extensive training and mentorship: Throughout the programme, you will receive on the job training from industry experts and advisors. Our unique structure also provides you with constant exposure to senior colleagues and client representatives from day one. 
  • Exposure within one cross-sector or industry team: From digital, public affairs, change management, international communications and a range of specialist sector teams – you will gain exposure to all areas of our diverse business. 
  • Hands on experience: The intern role provides you with the opportunity to work with some of the largest companies across the globe. As an intern you will gain exceptional experience such as: undertaking media and digital analysis, arranging promotional events, working with journalists and City analysts, and supporting our client account teams in client delivery, thought leadership and new business activities. 
  • Being part of a cohort: When you join the scheme you will be part of a larger intern group both within the Communications segment and the wider firm. You will therefore have the support of everyone around you. There are regular personal development training sessions, networking events and other social activities. 

There will also be regular learning and development opportunities working alongside advisers in the industry and with specialist client teams. Throughout the scheme you will be supported by your performance coach, a buddy and a mentor who can help support and guide you through your career goals and development, in addition to your Human Resources team.

What We Expect From You

  • Candidates must be interested in an 8-week internship during the summer of 2023, based at our London office 
  • Applicants should submit a CV and cover letter outlining their suitability for the programme 
  • Applicants should be in their penultimate year of study 
  • A desire to work in communications and PR 
  • Currently undertaking a degree-level qualification (no specific discipline required)
