What would I be doing?
Our excellent graduate programme and APC support aims to provide you with the best start and progression opportunities in your professional career as a Chartered Surveyor. To support our on-going growth, we are looking to recruit a Graduate in our Compulsory Purchase & Compensation team, within our Advisory division.
The team works closely with other specialists drawn from across the firm to ensure that clients benefit from integrated and holistic property advice – one team, one plan, one goal. You will be approachable, and able to establish long term relationships to ensure you exceed our client expectations.
Supporting our experts, you will help prepare accurate compensations costs in line with the compensation code. These could range from the impact on a business or the cost of the loss or relocation of a building, to agricultural crop losses, or valuing the land acquired. Your routine activities will include making and advising on compensation claims and preparing property cost estimates, service of blight notices, negotiation of sale following such, responding to temporary and permanent land occupation notices and claim management, and the closing out of existing claims.
You will be advising clients in advance of statutory notices for compulsory acquisition being served, responding to consultations and dealing with submissions to public inquiry (or similar) for acquiring authorities or for those with affected land owners and will need to staying abreast of local market knowledge and national market sector trends.
What do I need to have to apply?
We are more than happy to teach you all the technical skills you need, it is your personal attributes and commitment to the role that is key. Ideally, you will:
- Be a student from a Real Estate / RICS accredited degree (preferable)
- Have a passion and interest in the rural economy (preferable)
- Have excellent people and communication skills - both verbal and written;
- Have a positive, can-do attitude and be able to identify and solve problems;
- Have good attention to detail
- Adopt a consultative approach, able to identify and solve problems;
- Have the ability to work on multiple projects and tasks at any one time, working in a way that is highly agile and responsive to rapidly changing client and site requirements
- Be committed to continuing your professional development in order to become chartered with the RICS
- Have access to transport, or be willing to do so by the time you start work, as you will often be required to travel to out of town client sites;
- Enjoy going out and about in all weathers, travelling across the region or further afield and working outside of the normal 9-5 when required.
What’s in it for me?
Salary: £27,000 per annum for graduates with a property related degree accredited by the RICS. Plus full support towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS).
We will consider non-cognate applicants, with a starting salary of £23,500 PLUS sponsorship for a relevant RICS accredited Masters level degree, and support towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor for the right candidate.
