EQUANS are recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor Student Placement to be based in Belfast. This is a fixed term (12 month) full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary of up to £13,312 and benefits package.
General overview
Equans have a fantastic opportunity for a student looking to undertake an industry placement within our commercial team to commence in post as soon as possible.
The commercial team is responsible for the effective control of commercial risks, liabilities, exposures and opportunities within our trading relationships and during your placement, you will gain hands-on experience by supporting senior commercial staff in the administration of costs and contracts relating to active projects.
This is a perfect opportunity to gain valuable experience and put some of what you are learning into practice. The role will be challenging, demanding and varied. A fantastic opportunity working alongside a vastly experienced team.
As a placement student you will have the opportunity to work within a specialist field to assist the Commercial team across the business to reduce commercial risk and manage the commercial aspects of our projects.

Key accountabilities
- Developing an understanding of responsive Repairs and Maintenance on Measured Term Contracts
- Developing an understanding of the NEC suite of Contracts
- Assisting in the preparation of subcontract package enquiries, analysing tender returns, and supporting the administration of select packages (in accordance with company procedures
- Assisting with the valuation of subcontractor applications for payment
- Assisting with the assessment & preparation of payment notices and
- Assisting Final Account Valuations using Schedules of Rates / Dayworks / Quotations
- Assisting with capturing, managing, and communicating change and risk on the project in accordance with the contract
- Assisting with the reporting of the Project Budget / Cost Report
- Undertake record-keeping including but not limited to collating site records, the preparation of meeting packs, meeting invites, and assisting the write-up of meeting minutes
- Understanding the implications of health, safety and environmental regulations
- Ensure all health, safety and environmental risk situations are brought to the attention of Contract Leader / Project Manager
Who are we looking for?
- Currently working towards a RICS/CICES accredited degree or other agreed qualification – essential.
- Five GCSEs, grade A*- C or certified equivalent, including Maths and English
- Organised and able to multitask,
- Self-motivated,
- Flexible, Curious, and strive to understand the “why”,
- Proactive in self-development,
- Able to use Excel, Word, PowerPoint,
- An excellent communicator who is able to adapt communication styles (eg. effective oral, written, graphic and presentation),
- Able to work as part of a team,
- Looking to supplement theory with practical 1st hand experience and its application,
- Developing an appreciation of company policies, procedures & controls, office management systems & document control; contractual correspondence; commercial management standards, financial reporting; programme evaluation; health, safety & environmental regulations.
