Element has an opportunity for a Workshop Technician whose primary role is to undertake effective, accurate and efficient processing of maintenance and calibration tasks in the workshop based in Newcastle, in accordance with documented procedures.

Newcastle is one of the UK’s leading MCERTS and UKAS accredited (EA approved) stack emissions testing facilities supporting a diverse range of clients in sectors including Energy from Waste, Power Generation, Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing, Food & Beverage, Chemicals, Aggregates and more.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic tests and fault-find problems with a wide variety of instrumentation and manual sampling equipment
  • Carry out repairs & routine maintenance with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Follow procedures or manufacturer instructions.
  • Work alongside the workshop staff and process documentation in a timely manner without compromising quality
  • Undertake calibration of sampling equipment, including analyser systems checks, and accurately complete calibration certificates.
  • Assist with the implementation of technical improvements to sampling equipment and to take active role in new workshop projects.
  • To adhere to regulations and laboratory policies regarding health, safety and welfare and to maintain a clean and hygienic working environment.
  • To maintain accurate and systematic records in accordance with documented procedures.
  • To participate in the training programme, undergo further training as required and participate in schemes to ensure on-going competence.
  • To have a sound knowledge of relevant documents within the Quality System including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Manual and relevant methods applicable to the post.

Skills and qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in maintenance and calibration of instruments
  • Background and knowledge of working with electrical instrumentation, engineering practices and Portable Appliance Testing
  • Experience in a similar role would be advantageous, however full training will be provided
  • A full driving license is essential
  • You will be a good team player with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and develop your skills and being able to use initiative to suggest solutions to problems
  • Attention to detail and a desire to provide excellent customer service are desirable characteristics of the successful candidate
