About you and this role

An industrial placement as a maintenance engineer at Dow Silicones offers you the opportunity to gain real world engineer experience whilst working in at a world leading forward thinking company investing in decarbonization and sustainability. Our friendly and inclusive work team is an ideal footing to enable you to grow professionally and gain hands on experience at a major manufacturing site.

Our job working within the maintenance organization, you will work with a team of maintenance engineers, reliability engineers and maintenance technicians to deliver effective planned and preventative maintenance to our chemical plant. The role will include a broad range of responsibilities in a variety of different work settings such as chemical plant safety and environmental performance, process operation, optimization, modification, maintenance, and technology implementation.

Engineers must use sound technical judgment to enable safe and efficient plant operations. You’ll work as part of a team at Dow, and we have many opportunities to address challenging real-world problems.

We are looking for you, an ambitious Mechanical Engineering student, to support our business by doing an internship project in our Basics and Finishing Facilities to improve reliability for our location in Barry, UK on the outskirts of Cardiff.

Responsibilities

  • You will work on reliability improvement projects to eliminate process breakdowns as assigned by a Senior Reliability Engineer on a wide variety of process plant equipment including:
  • Rotating equipment – pumps, seals, agitators, conveyors.
  • Fixed Equipment – vessels, heat exchangers and piping systems.

Qualifications

  • You are currently studying for a master's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • You have a good working knowledge of English.
  • You can start between July and August 2025 for a period of 12 months (exact timing to be discussed).
