Crowe is where talented people can realise their potential, are successful and enjoy what they do by making a positive difference to our clients, communities and each other.

At Crowe, our aim is to create a community where regardless of gender, identity, sexuality, race, ethnicity, education or background, everyone is valued, can flourish and achieve their full potential.

Crowe’s VAT team

The VAT team at Crowe is a National one which means we work as a single team but spread across the 7 UK offices.  Our VAT team includes Customs specialists and we work closely together as one regardless of our regional location.  In addition to working together, we support and work alongside the other Crowe service lines to provide multi-discipline solutions for our clients.

VAT is a transactional tax and hence it impacts all organisations across the board.  In 2021/22 it generated receipts for the Government of £143bn (almost x 2.5 more than Corporation taxes) and hence is increasingly on the radar for businesses looking to control and better manage their finances.

The Crowe team is broadly focussed towards two main areas, those being the Corporate and Not for Profit (NFP) sectors.  At a junior level there is involvement across both these which means joiners gain an insight to multiple areas of VAT such as property and construction, manufacturing, consumer goods, not-for-profit and charities, professional partnerships and financial services.  At a senior level the team are more focussed towards NFP or Corporate clients.

The team has grown rapidly over the past few years, doubling headcount and revenues.  This growth has occurred evenly across compliance and advisory work and includes, as a result of Brexit, an increase in working with the Crowe international network on cross-border client projects.

The role

Those joining the indirect tax team should have an expectation to complete professional qualifications. Our preferred route is for graduates to become Chartered Tax Advisors (CTA) and we will facilitate this by helping you study for that qualification, including the Association Tax Technicians (ATT) qualification beforehand.

You will have unparalleled exposure to various areas within VAT and Customs to ensure you are training to the highest level and achieve a well-rounded skillset.  Your day to day responsibilities at the outset will include:

  • Supporting the compliance team to complete VAT returns;
  • Helping with advisory projects, working alongside more senior colleagues to provide support to our clients;
  • Undertaking research on technical matters; and
  • Involvement with marketing and business development activities;

There is a significant amount of interaction with other lines of services (tax, audit, corporate finance) which will help with exposure to all the different parts of Crowe.

Entry requirements

  • An achieved or expected 2.2 minimum in degree
  • BBC (Or equivalent) minimum in A Levels from 3 subjects
  • GCSE Grade 4 (C) minimum in Maths & English Language

Your application will not be based on academic performance alone; you will be required to demonstrate the personal qualities which underpin our core values, which include personal drive, integrity and leadership. If you do not meet all the entry requirements, you may still be considered if the rest of your application is strong. If you have any extenuating circumstances that you believe we should take into account, and you are comfortable sharing, please let our recruitment team know and this will be looked at alongside your application.
