What to expect

As the R&D Chemistry Intern of our R&D Team, you will support the research, development, and testing of novel materials and processes for contact lens products. It will involve designing, planning and the completion of experiments, hands-on work such as monomer preparation and material testing and then the analysis and reporting of results generated.

  • Carries out daily lab operations and assists in performing lab experiments involving preparation of saline solutions, contact lens monomer mixtures and material testing of contact lenses. This includes techniques such as, UV-VIS spectroscopy, contact angle, mechanical and oxygen permeability testing.
  • Assists in planning, running, testing, and reporting of R&D trials.
  • Works effectively in a team environment and can interface with cross-functional teams.
  • Works independently when operating lab equipment following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Makes detailed observations and maintains proper documentation and records of experimental work.
  • Performs data entry, data analysis, writing of technical reports and creates presentations.
  • Researches information for technological advancement to assist with project work.
  • Effectively communicates, both orally and in writing, with internal personnel and external partners.

About you

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal who is highly organized with strong attention to detail.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple time sensitive requirements.
  • General laboratory experience e.g. the use of balances, pipetting and following test methods.
  • Intellectual curiosity – reviewing information to uncover insights and implications relevant to R&D project work.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Education

  • Currently undertaking an undergraduate degree in Chemistry / Bio Chemistry / Pharmaceutical / R&D / Engineering or a closely related degree, and plan on pursuing a career in a related field.
