Convatec are recruiting Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Intern(s) to join the Smart Factory team at its facility in Deeside, Wales. The Intern will be involved in the development and implementation of the system across the manufacturing site. They will be trained on the system to develop understanding of the features and capabilities of an MES. Interns shall be involved with the training, testing and deployment of the system, with ample opportunity for training, learning and personal growth along during the program.

The Intern contract will be to the end of December 2024

Responsibilities

  • Develop in depth understanding of the system, to aid in the rollout plan of the Smart Factory team.
  • Develop, test and document the system.
  • Manage the maintenance and troubleshoot the system.
  • Support the production team online and on the manufacturing shop floor to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Provide ‘on the job’ and ‘in the classroom’ training to any and all shop floor personnel using the MES on lines currently rolled out as part of the project.
  • Provide further advanced training to Super users and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

The chosen candidate will work as a key member of a multi-functional project team to maintain and improve the recently implemented MES application.

This will require close collaboration with IT, Product teams, manufacturing operations, and engineering to translate new functional requirements into technical requirements, resolve complicated issues, and maintain ongoing operation of the system.

The candidate will provide mentorship and support to MES end users, including diagnosing and resolving issues. They will assist in executing computer system validation deliverables including specifications, validation plans, test scripts, and reports.

Communicate effectively with external team members, contribute to cross organization activities.

Key requirements

  • Prior experience in MES system is desirable or any experience related to implementation of software systems within manufacturing.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems with ability to handle trouble shoot and solve problems.
  • Soft skills and competencies are essential for success in the role.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, technical analysis, problem solving, and investigative skills.
  • Willingness and ability to learn quickly on the job.
  • There will be a need to understand MES systems including configuration, integration with other solutions, and how MES is used to support the business process.
  • Experience working on global teams across organizational levels with the ability to collaborate across a diverse, multi-functional team.
  • Good understanding/exposure of manufacturing production processes
  • Good understanding/exposure to PLC, control networks within manufacturing
  • Good understanding/exposure to GxP validated systems and processes.

Education/ qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (IT/Manufacturing/Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics/Industrial)
  • Manufacturing Experience Desirable.
