On this scheme you’ll be at the heart of the Civil Service, proposing and designing courses of action across a variety of policy areas that will improve existing or develop new public services. Working with Parliament, legislation and a broad stakeholder network you’ll support ministers with impartial and objective advice, enabling them to navigate complex policy issues. You’ll learn how to approach matters strategically, tactically and creatively, as well as developing an understanding of the systems of government.

Our policy-specific curriculum will give you a grounding in the three pillars of the Policy Profession competency framework – Strategy, Democracy and Delivery. You’ll learn on the job too, working across a range of departments and roles, with mentoring and role-specific learning to help you gain technical policy skills. This will be complemented by ongoing leadership and management training, and an accredited learning offer, as well as a variety of networking and other development opportunities.
