The successful candidate would provide general assistance and support to specialists and the sale coordinator on all sale related activity. This role will provide the candidate with a solid understanding of the functionality of the Jewellery department at Christie's. The Internship would commence in March and run until July.

The role

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • General assistance to all staff in the day to day running of the department - answering phones, distributing daily post, department housekeeping including maintenance of department library, etc
  • Assist with all aspects of sale production – cataloguing property, organising photography, proof reading material, arranging the sale webpage
  • Maintaining sale databases to ensure information is easily accessible to department - recording details of makers, circa dates and countries of origin, categorising property by type
  • Assist Specialists on valuations where appropriate – conducting in depth research, gathering material, preparing images, working on proposal documents, escorting clients through the building
  • Assist the Art Handler to unpack and tag incoming property and check if paperwork, boxes, and other accessories are present
  • Oversee secure handling of Jewellery to photo studio for photographing as instructed
  • Assist with image management post-photography
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of the sale
  • Help prepare assets for condition reports including printing reports and taking photos
  • Provide support during Auction exhibitions - setting up property, attending the viewing, assisting clients to handle the property
  • Help Art Handler to pack and un-pack shipments
  • Liaise with logistics teams to arrange shipments for exhibitions or send property to workshops
  • Provide general support with tours by preparing lots cards and arranging printed property lists, condition reports, and certificates
  • Help to update excel trackers as required
  • Other duties as required

The candidate

  • A completed gemmological qualification, or in the process of studying towards one
  • A demonstrated interest in the Jewellery market
  • Exceptional organizational skills including ability to multi-task, prioritise and manage multiple processes
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up to see tasks through to completion
  • Knowledge of the auction workflow and processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication, with the ability to utilise these to satisfy clients
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple groups and sites
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to creatively problem solve
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
