What were looking for?

Channel 4 is looking for talented and enthusiastic graduates to join our data science team. At the same time you will receive full support to study for an MRes at UCL on their Big Data Analytics programme.

With our team of data scientists, you will develop and apply machine learning models, and implement cutting-edge data products using our Hadoop stack, Python, and R. You will also spend some time running queries on our data to generate meaningful insight into our viewers. And, importantly, you’ll tell the story of the maths and programming that you’ve done to the business, in a clear and engaging way.

This two-year scheme has the first year split between UCL’s Big Data analytics masters programme and C4 – alongside a jointly-supervised year long project. The final year will be as a full time employee of Channel 4. We’re looking for ambitious graduates with a BSc 2:1 or higher in statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering or another related quantitative discipline.

What’s it all about?

We build machine learning models to better understand our viewers and Channel 4. By this we mean, we build models to make accurate inferences about whether the individual likes, say fashion, or a good deal; which adverts they and the advertisers would be most keen for them to see; and how best to talk to them directly. We’re also building a recommendation engine, and have a bunch of other cutting edge big data products for TV.
