What experiences can Test Data Systems offer you?

The Test Data Systems team are directly responsible for Test Automation and Data Acquisition Systems used in power system development.

We are automation champions - using our skills in coding, system integration and debugging, we develop, integrate, and configure automation and data management software; Delivering a comprehensive, feature rich, flexible, optimized and robust set of automated test solutions (logic and infrastructure) that can be used by our internal partners to efficiently develop our next generation of power systems!

Your two-year Graduate Development Programme will be tailored to ensure you gain a broad understanding of your chosen field and build the foundations of a successful career. Job duties and responsibilities

  • You will engage in challenging work, solving real-world engineering problems through collaboration with our local and global team
  • You will be responsible for the successful implementation and deployment of new requirements, features, improvements, and bug fixes within our test automation platforms
  • You will help develop our test solutions to provide a robust, maintainable, and cutting-edge platform that works for all of our customers’ needs
  • You will work closely within a global team comprised of Product Owners, Software Architects, System Integration Engineers, Automation Developers and Testers
  • You will have the opportunity to work with a range of industry leading Automation and Data Acquisition tools including products from leading automotive suppliers such as FEV (Morphee), AVL (Lynx, Puma) and Vector (CANape)

  • Applicants will be on target to achieve a minimum of 2:2 honours degree level in one of the below or similar disciplines:
    • Software Development / Engineering
    • Computer Science / Engineering
    • Electrical/Electronic Engineering
    • Mechatronic and/or Robotic Engineering
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
    • Passion for automation and commitment to learn/grow capability within the field of automation and software development
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including ability to troubleshoot system interaction issues, identify root causes and develop appropriate solutions
    • Experience with scripting and/or coding in one or more language (Python, C, C++, C#, PowerShell, Batch-script, Bash etc.) and an appetite to further develop scripting and coding ability within the role (with training, Coaching and support!)
    • Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills

Recruitment Process Guidelines

Here is a brief overview of what you can expect when applying to our Early Career roles.

Online Application: The first stage of the process is to complete the online application and attach your CV, this must be done before the closing date of the role that you're applying for. Once we reach the close date, we will begin reviewing all our applications, this may take a little while and we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know if you have been successful in moving forward to the next stage.

Stage one – Video Interview: If selected, you will be invited to complete a user-friendly video interview which will then be reviewed by the Hiring Team. At this stage, if you are successful, you will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre which we anticipate will be held on 22nd January 2025 onsite at our Peterborough facility so please try to keep that date free. We would also recommend that you check your spam emails and your Workday account for updates.

Stage two - Assessment Centre: The Assessment Centre Day will look at a range of behaviours such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. We aim to make these days fun, inclusive and as relaxed as possible.

Stage three – Offer: After the Assessment Centre, the Caterpillar team will review the feedback and extend offers to our preferred candidates, we aim to do this as quickly as possible. Graduates will start on 8th September 2025. We look forward to receiving your application to join Caterpillar!
