Our underwriters have extensive experience inside and outside of the insurance market and are market leading experts in their specialist areas. This breadth of underwriting portfolio provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders on claims across different risks, jurisdictions and industries.
Canopius is seeking an individual who is wanting to start/is beginning a career in Energy claims in the London insurance market. The individual will learn to proactively adjust claims from their initial notification through settlement.
They will need to shadow and support the Energy Claims team grow relationships throughout Canopius and collaborate with other internal capabilities especially the underwriting and actuarial teams. They will be encouraged to build strong relationships with underwriters and brokers in the line of business.
Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of the claims within the Renewables, Upstream Energy, Downstream and Power and Energy Liabilities portfolios.
- Ensure that sufficient financial provisions, in accordance with the Canopius reserving philosophy, are held for all claims within the portfolio and reported appropriately.
- Proactively adjust claims within their claim’s authority and in accordance with the Canopius claims manual; ensuring and delivering the very highest service to all our customers by effectively driving claims through to resolution.
- Nurture and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with the underwriters and actuaries for the relevant classes of business.
- Instruct and proactively work with panel lawyers, adjusters, and experts to ensure the best outcomes whilst controlling costs and reducing claims leakage.
- Act as a subject matter expert for the portfolio and provide technical advice and support to more junior members of the team.
Skills & experience
- Knowledge of the claims function in the London Market
- Some understanding of policy coverage and liability assessment, claims negotiation skills and claims strategy.
- Ability to prioritise and proactively meet deadlines.
- A passion for learning and a keen interest in current events.
- Ability to manage complex issues and problems, and escalate appropriately.
