The role

Microbiology Analytical Services provide technical support to the microbiological analysis of samples offering accredited testing services for a full range of pathogens and spoilage organisms.

What you'll do

  • Microbiological testing of sample, including PCR and DNA based methods.
  • Logging and booking in samples, entering results, creating reports.
  • Contribute to validation and verification of methods working alongside the Laboratory Manager
  • To ensure calibration, verification for all equipment is adhered to and completed on schedule and records kept.
  • Maintain laboratory facilities and equipment as detailed in the BMS, including performing housekeeping duties
  • To develop skills to be a point of contact for client liaison regarding testing requirements and results.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Microbiology or Biology.
  • Experience in working with spoilage and food borne pathogens e.g. Salmonella, Listeria, including knowledge of cell morphology, media, incubation times and temperature requirements (beneficial)
  • Experience in calculating laboratory results and writing reports.
  • Competent in Excel and Word
  • Accurate record keeping and reporting.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • ‘Can do’ attitude and a team player.

Additional information

Please note due to our rural location you must be able to drive and have your own transport.

You'll work Mon-Friday 8am-4.30pm.

There is a weekend rota, every 1 in 4- you will have to do several hours over Saturday and Sunday which will be paid overtime.
