Cambridge University Press & Assessment is looking for an organized, self-motivated Editorial Assistant to support commissioning editors in mathematics, computer science, and data science in the academic books publishing group. Editorial Assistants provide administrative support for each aspect of their assigned editors' duties; in particular, working with authors to ensure the timely delivery of completed manuscripts and supporting documentation.
Primary responsibilities include
- Tracking progress of projects and working with authors to ensure timely delivery of manuscripts suitable for production
- Briefing authors on manuscript preparation and responding to queries
- Preparing manuscripts and files to transfer to the production department.
• Preparing contracts for authors and volume editors - Drafting marketing copy for new publications
- Assisting editors in peer review of new book projects
• Assisting editors with basic clerical work, such as payments to authors and reviewers; record keeping and data entry, and circulation of paperwork as needed.
• Representing editor(s) when they are out of the office.
• Other duties as assigned by editorial management.
About you
The ideal candidate will possess strong written/oral communication, interpersonal, administrative, and time management skills, and an ability to work independently. A strong set of computer skills and familiarity with basic computer applications (for example, Word and Excel) are required, as is a bachelor's degree, preferably in a science or technical field, and a minimum of one year's office experience. Knowledge of the publishing industry is advantageous.
