Our summer vacation scheme is offered across all our UK office locations, please select your preferred office location when applying. This scheme is for individuals looking to gain legal experience and secure a place on our 2026 Trainee Solicitor Pathway (previously called a training contract).  Please note that you must be in the penultimate year of a degree (or equivalent) or beyond to be eligible to apply.

About the role

If you're looking to get a head start on your legal career, our summer vacation scheme gives you the opportunity to experience life and work at Browne Jacobson.

We offer around 10 places on our summer vacation scheme across our UK offices, taking place in the last two weeks of June. You’ll be given the opportunity to undertake real work as well as learning more about our firm. You’ll also gain first-hand experience of our values and culture. Throughout the scheme, you’ll be assessed for a place on our Trainee Solicitor Pathway (previously called a training contract).

Your placement will be in one of our legal teams, where you’ll work on a range of tasks. Throughout your time with us, you'll be under the guidance of a dedicated supervisor, and you’ll receive constructive feedback on what you’re doing well and how you could be even better. As well as spending time with a legal team, you'll also have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities, as outlined below:

  • Group project – you'll complete a project and present your findings on the final day. It's a chance to showcase your teamwork and analytical skills.
  • Training and development – we’ll run sessions designed to enhance and develop your professional skills, preparing you for a successful career in law.
  • Buddy system – you’ll be paired with a buddy, who’ll be there to offer guidance and support.
  • Networking opportunities – collaborate with people from across the firm, including our trainee solicitors, managing partner, and lawyers. These interactions will give you valuable insights and support you in building your professional network.
  • Departmental talks – gain a deeper understanding of our firm through talks about our departments. Learn about the work we do, our clients, and the values that drive our success.

You’ll also be provided with financial assistance (£350 per week) to help with travel and/or accommodation costs.
