We have an exciting opportunity to join our Health & Safety team as a Regional Advisor. This role supports a region of 100+ stores in the South & South-East of England. Ideally you will be based in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Berkshire, or Hampshire.

The role

As the Regional Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll ensure that all H&S policies and practices are proportionate, realistic, in place and working effectively. You'll represent B&M when liaising with enforcing authorities on all aspects of Fire and Health & Safety. If you are currently in a Health & Safety role, or you're in retail and have a desire to pursue a career in Health & Safety, this could be ideal for you. The role also offers the opportunity to work towards a NEBOSH qualification.

Reporting to the Senior H&S Manager the day-to-day duties of this role will include;

  • Investigating and recording incidents, accidents, complaints, and cases of ill health.
  • Providing clear advice on H&S requirements relating to working methods or physical changes.
  • Undertaking risk assessments and site inspections.
  • Drawing-up safe operational practices and making necessary changes.
  • Determining ways of reducing risks and ensuring awareness of changes in legislation.
  • Compiling H&S statistics, writing reports, bulletins, and newsletters.
  • Delivering training courses and hosting H&S meetings.
  • Prepare and submit RIDDOR reports to the HSE or equivalent, when required.

The experience and skills required are

  • Practical experience of Health & Safety in a multi-site capacity is preferred but not essential.
  • Membership of IOSH, NEBOSH, IFE is ideal, although can be worked towards.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Law would be preferable.
  • Good level of proficiency in MS Word, Office, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A strong judgement, able to solve complex problems and lead others to find commercial solutions.
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise workload under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Resilience and the ability to influence when dispensing advice, particularly at a senior level.
