We are offering six graduates the opportunity to work as part of the BBC’s extended legal team whilst studying for both parts of the Solicitors’ Qualifying Exam (SQE).
What will you be doing?
As a Solicitor Apprentice (LSP24), you’ll join the BBC Legal team and develop your skills in areas like:
- Intellectual property
- Information Rights (Data Protection)
- Employment and Competition
- Litigation and Commercial
And you’ll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job.
Where does the role lead to?
Completion of the scheme will typically lead to a role in the Legal or Commercial, Rights & Business Affairs (CRBA) team.
This 30-month Level 7 scheme starts in September 2024, in partnership with BPP University. This is delivered via a ‘day release’ model. This means you’ll be provided with dedicated time outside of your full time role at BBC each week, in order to study for the SQE.
What are we looking for
To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:
- Be 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in September 2024.
- Have a qualifying law degree* or a non-law degree plus the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) by the start of the scheme in September 2024.
- Have a 2:1 degree, although we will consider candidates with a lower award (subject to case by case discussion).
- Be legally allowed to work in the UK
*A qualifying Law Degree means a Law Degree in England and Wales or another Law Degree together with a LLM from an English or Welsh institution

Great Solicitors Apprentices are those that enjoy:
- Operating as part of the division to support content and business areas ensuring great programmes get on screen.
- Working alongside a team of litigators, helping resolve disputes and defend the organisation
- Solving problems creatively and quickly alongside their team and the business areas.
Throughout the selection process, we’ll be looking for evidence of how you demonstrate our values in your day-to-day.
What you get
During your apprenticeship
- A starting salary of £32,180 (+£5,164 London Living Allowance)
- A dedicated Team Manager and Scheme Specialist
- Ongoing support from in-house BBC legal team to complete the Solicitors’ Qualifying Exam (SQE)

Towards the end of your apprenticeship
- An industry recognised Level 7 Solicitor apprenticeship. The qualification awarded by BPP University for this programme is the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
