Data Engineering - Year in Industry Pathway

If you’re seeking hands-on experience, our 12-month industry placement provides in-depth insights into making life easier for thousands of colleagues and 19.5 million customers.
And the great thing is, you don’t need to be studying a tech or data-related subject to join us. If you have a passion for technology, a knack for problem-solving, and some coding experience (preferably in SQL or Python, but not essential), we can teach you the rest.
Get to know the role
Our Data teams work with stakeholders to define and translate business requirements into data models for analytics and/or report building. If you have a passion for data, we have the following placement available:
Data Engineer (Bristol) - our Data Engineers are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the systems we use to collect, store, and analyse data using coding languages such as Python, Spark and SQL.
As a Data Engineer, you’ll learn and apply the technical skills to create and maintain data components and pipelines as well as the basics, best practices, and importance of data modelling. Along with great problem-solving skills, your eye for detail and your ability to work independently and collaboratively (as part of a team and with stakeholders) will be put to good use.
During the placement, the breadth of experience and the variety of skills you can gain is immense. The work you do will be interesting and challenging. And you’ll do it with the full support of our brilliant data & technology community.
Our placements are designed to feed into our Graduate Programmes. After completing your placement, you might be offered a permanent graduate role starting with us in 2027 (after successful completion of your course).

What we’re looking for
To be considered for this 12-month placement, you must be:
● Studying for an undergraduate degree (in any subject)
● On a course that supports a placement year
● Available to work full-time (35 hours per week) from July 2025 to end of June 2026
● Eligible to work in the UK for the duration of your placement, without requiring sponsorship. Please note: this job is not sponsorable under the Home Office Points Based System.
● Intending to return to university for your final year of study after the placement (graduating in 2027)
And have:
● A genuine passion for change, innovation and continual improvement
● Some previous coding experience or knowledge, either gained as part of your studies or self-taught as an outside passion. We’ll ask you to complete a coding test as part of the selection process
● A confident communication style with a love of learning and the drive to keep developing yourself
● An analytical mind and talent for problem solving
Where could you be based?
Our Data Engineering Year in Industry opportunities are based in Bristol: a buzzing place in which to launch your career. You’ll need to live within commuting distance of the office where the role is based, or willing to relocate prior to your start date as you’ll need to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, working from home. Three days in the office and two days from home is typical, but this will vary between teams.
