About the role

Our graduates are at their most supported, right from their very first day. Their buddy and our dedicated early careers team are always there for them. And our collaborative, people-first culture means that help and support just come naturally. It brings out the very best in them. It’ll bring the best out in you too when you join us as a Graduate Software Developer.

As a company, our purpose is to drive change together. Responsibly. We aim to improve the process of buying and selling vehicles in the UK by evolving the ecosystem to provide a better experience for consumers, retailers and manufacturers alike.

Our graduates start their careers in our in-house academy, where you’ll learn about Auto Trader, yourself, your fellow Graduates, our technology and the automotive industry (so you don't need to love cars to work here). You'll also interact with our developer community from the start to understand our diverse tech stack and ways of working. These include elements from Agile, XP, Scrum, Kanban and TDD.

Our teams are made up of Technical, Product and Delivery Leads, as well as UX, Test and Data Analysts and Developers (Java, JavaScript, Python, .NET, C#). You'll have the opportunity to work across a range of teams during the graduate programme. Interactions such as pairing, code reviews and regular stand-ups will help lay the foundations for your career in software development.

Our graduate programme starts on the 9th October 2023.

To learn more about the work of our tech community, take a read of our Engineering and Product blogs.

What We're Looking For

  • You'll be a recent graduate in any degree discipline (or hold a level 6 qualification) with a passion for coding and technology.
  • We'd like to hear how you've complimented your studies and knowledge, whether that be through personal technology projects or university/community hacks you've attended. Feel free to share your GitHub projects, portfolios or articles with us if you have them (but don’t worry if you don’t).
  • As a digital business, we're constantly evolving, so the ability to adapt to an ever-changing landscape is a must.
  • Our tech community values collaboration and teamwork, and you’ll be eager to learn from the people you work with and embrace the opportunities on offer.

Benefits and more

Our graduate salaries start between £27,000 - £29,000 and we offer a flexible benefits package to support your health and well-being. You'll have 28 days holiday per year, and that's in addition to bank holidays and half day closures on Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Our Aviva pension scheme offers between 5% to 7% employer contributions depending on the percentage you choose to contribute. We also provide Bupa healthcare cover for all our employees.

Our employee assistance programme, share-save options, Calm app subscription and discounted gym rates are just some of the other benefits on offer if you decide to join us.

We're passionate about career development at Auto Trader, and we all develop and learn things differently. Whether you attend an external conference, utilise a LinkedIn Learning license or choose one of our in-house masterclasses, there's something for everyone.
