The opportunity

On this 6-week Summer Internship you'll work alongside skilled professionals and from day one you will be working on real life meaningful projects - adding add value to clients, while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity.

You'll learn from others and begin creating your professional network ready for when you graduate. There are regular learning sessions with our leadership team, opportunities for site visits to local projects and all kinds of social events that will support your learning and development.

Our aim is to welcome as many students back into our other programmes be that another internship or potential graduate position. This placement is the stepping-stone to your future.

On this 8-12-week Summer Internship, you'll work alongside skilled professionals within the Track team in our Birmingham Rail team. You will receive structured training in our systems and design software and will be working on real-life, meaningful projects that add value to clients while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity. You'll learn from others and begin creating your professional network, ready for when you graduate. There are regular learning sessions, opportunities for site visits to local projects, and various social events and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) activities that will support your learning and development. Our aim is to welcome as many students back into our other programmes, whether that be another internship or a potential graduate position in the future, using this placement as a stepping-stone to your career. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills. We ask that you are flexible on location as you may at times be required to work from other locations across the UK, depending on the needs of our clients and business.

Within the Track team, you will be involved in projects covering various stages of design, from feasibility to approval for construction. Based on project availability, we aim to provide you with experience on site visits for the projects you are working on. You will likely work on several projects during your 8-12 week placement to gain a variety of different experiences across these projects, working for different clients across the UK and globally. Some of the areas of work you could be involved in during your placement include, but are not limited to, alignment design, track feasibility studies, track detailed design, S&C detailed design, gauge clearance analysis, alignment costings and quantities, componentry specification, and trackform detailed design.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for candidates who are working towards a degree in Railway Engineering, Railway Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
