We are currently seeking applications from interested students to join our 2025 Geospatial Work Placement Programme as a member of the Geospatial team.

The opportunity

Arup Ireland are seeking talented students to join our team in Dublin. We look for students who are ready to jump into the professional world; diverse individuals with inquisitive minds and a desire to challenge. You will work alongside skilled professionals and contribute to the success of real projects.

You will also enjoy learning sessions with technical experts within your team, working on local projects and all kinds of social events. You will be working with a team of Digital, Geospatial and Data specialists based in our Dublin and Cork offices with support from the wider Digital Services team.

This is an office-based role, with successful candidates expected to work 5 days per week in the Arup office in Dublin.

As a work placement student part of the Geospatial team at Arup, you will:

  • Work with a range of Geospatial technologies to capture, process, analyse, and visualise data.
  • Run automated systems and processes.
  • Deliver Geospatial project tasks on time e.g., pdf maps, webmaps, methodologies/workflows, data management solutions.
  • Deliver dynamic, innovative solutions to internal and external clients by thinking both logically and creatively e.g., dashboards, Storymaps, interactive webmaps/apps.
  • Work with staff from other disciplines and demonstrate the value of good Geospatial standards and practices.

Does this role inspire you?

We're looking for students who are currently studying for a relevant bachelor’s degree level or be currently undertaking a post-graduate level qualification in a relevant discipline, including, but not limited to:

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing, Geocomputation, Geographic Information Science, Geospatial Data Analysis or Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation.

We also value:

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop extensions (Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst).
  • Knowledge of spatial ETL applications, specifically FME, for data conversions.
  • Knowledge of Python and/or SQL advantageous.
  • Experience preparing map documents.
  • Data management and standards knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

As a part of the Geospatial team in Arup you would be given the opportunity to work on a wide scope of projects. Below are examples of clients we work with:

  • Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications,
  • Various Local Authorities in Ireland,
  • Royal Commission for Urban Development of Bhutan,
  • Bechtel ENKA,
  • John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice.
