The role

As a Graduate Mathematical Modeller, you will work within our Radioactive Waste Disposal business that plays a world-leading role in scientific, conceptual engineering and safety case development work underpinning the future management and disposal of radioactive waste, spent nuclear fuels and nuclear materials. We support key clients in the UK and overseas across the nuclear industry.

The role

You will work on a diverse range of projects that underpin the safety of future geological disposal facilities (GDF), as well as near-surface storage and disposal facilities. This will involve working with our junior and senior modellers as well as our senior consultants who are leaders in their field. You will be involved in delivering desk-based consultancy projects .

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Providing input to a range of technical and modelling areas from conceptual model development, through data analysis, model set up and execution, to results analysis and interpretation.
  • Producing concise and well-written technical reports and presentation of results.
  • Developing an understanding of the underlying requirements of our clients, and how we can meet those requirements.
  • Our projects are varied but are likely to involve:
  • Modelling of physical processes, including thermal, chemical, and mechanical, using established software toolkits or finite element models
  • Coupled modelling of physical processes
  • Hydrogeological modelling with our proprietary 3D finite-element modelling software ( ConnectFlow )
  • Probabilistic modelling
  • Maintenance and development of modelling software

About you 

  • Have completed a Degree or Masters level qualification in a relevant subject by Summer 2025
  • A flexible self-starter, keen to drive your career forward.
  • Adaptable to change, with a thirst for learning new things.
  • You must have the permanent right to work in the UK.
