Our involvement in the UK Nuclear sector includes the largest infrastructure project in Europe, Hinkley Point C New Build Nuclear Power Station. But that’s not just it, we can offer roles that will excite and develop you in equal amounts through the UK Nuclear Fusion Programme, Operational UK Power Station Life Extension, Nuclear Decommissioning and support to the UK’s spent Nuclear fuel management facilities, not to mention Sizewell C Nuclear New Build.

Graduate scheme structure

Our Nuclear Graduate Scheme fundamentally aims to ensure we are recruiting, developing, deploying and retaining a pool of talent made up of future leaders and technical experts that will meet the needs of the future business.

The Nuclear Graduate Scheme runs for 4 years with 2 distinct phases. During the 2 years of Phase 1 you will work on various nuclear projects throughout the UK, completing multiple project placements including but not limited to the following:

  • Engineering
  • Project Management
  • Project Controls
  • Project Delivery (site-based experience)
  • Procurement
  • Quality & HSE

Phase 2 will see you transition into a permanent role within Altrad Babcock to support both business needs and continue to develop your individual aspirations.

We have the following opportunities as base locations for the graduate scheme:

  • Hinkley Point C – Bristol/Southwest
  • Sellafield – Cumbria/Northwest
  • Renfrew (Glasgow)
  • Sunderland

Given the nature of the Graduate scheme, full time attendance in the offices and sites is required however flexibility is offered upon request.

Support & Training

Altrad Babcock offers a structured development program which focuses on your technical and personal development. You will have access to an incredible depth of resources and opportunities throughout the scheme.

Each Graduate will be assigned a professional mentor to ensure your development is meeting the requirements of the UK-SPEC and support you through your journey to chartership. You’ll be given a  buddy from a previous graduate cohort to ensure your transition into Altrad Babcock is as easy as possible and provide you with guidance and support required.

During the scheme you’ll be supported through your technical development through a variety of on-the-job practical experience as well as formal training courses leading to accredited qualifications. Altrad Babcock also provides its own personal development learning platform which gives you the ability to improve your softer skills.

What happens after the graduate scheme?

Upon successful completion of Phase 2 of the graduate scheme, you will continue your journey in your chosen field accumulating experience through direct contribution to the Nuclear sector operational and project activities. Altrad Babcock would expect you to be taking on increasing responsibility, leading engineering delivery and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to deliver complex engineering solutions. Continued training and support will enable a successful career at Altrad Babcock giving you every opportunity for promotion.

The minimum entrance requirement for our Nuclear Graduate Scheme is a 2:2 honors degree qualification in either a numerate, science or engineering specialism.
