Nature of the Work
The D3 group is a central team that supports all areas of the enterprise. At any given time, there will be dozens of R&D projects in progress. As part of D3, you will join a team assigned to one of these projects, where you and your teammates will work together to solve a complex problem. Projects can range from developing a text recognition model to help insurance adjusters settle claims, to creating a neural net to recognize and categorise storm damage. Other projects include building GLMs to predict loss and using Large Language Models to determine customer chat intent.

Data, Discovery, and Decision Science (D3) is the research and analytics organization at Allstate. This role is responsible for the use and development of data infrastructure projects & proof of concept business solutions for users in analytics and Data Science. This person works directly with data scientists and analytic engineers on needs and tactical solutions. This role will execute new data engineering work tracks for Data Science and analytics from inception and prototyping to fully developed solutions.
The Internship
Each year we invite a small group of individuals to work with us for a 12-week period around June-Aug. We look for those with a passion for finding great solutions to complex problems, and enthusiasm for quickly learning whatever techniques and technology are right for the job.
Successful candidates will avail of our hybrid work model during the summer of 2025 among more than 40 experienced data scientists and engineers, and will work with a team that spans multiple locations. They'll learn about how data science techniques are used to solve business problems, then apply this knowledge on a challenging research project which will be of real value to Allstate.
Those who successfully complete their 12-week internship with Allstate Northern Ireland may be made offers of permanent employment with Allstate. These positions will be conditional and commence post-graduation and will be subject to the student securing a first-class classification in their BSc degree or a Distinction or equivalent in their Master’s Degree or PHD.

Essential skills
- First class degree (attained or expected) in a computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related, highly quantitative field AND
- In final year of a Bachelor’s degree OR
- In final or penultimate year of a Masterʼs degree OR
- In final or penultimate year of a PhD program
